Hiya Folks.
I own a Chrysler Voyager SE and I am having a nightmare with the power locks.... Read more
I know this subject has been done to death but I haven't yet seen a really objective answer that meets my needs.
I have been running hydropnumatic citroens for the last 25 years or so and have got used to there excellent ride, my last XMs are coming to the end of their lives and I am looking for a suitable secondhand large estate car that has a good ride. My only requirement is that I don't feel the bumps, I don't care about handling I don't drive fast enough.... Read more
Probably not poor when compared with an Audi or BMW but definitly hard compared with the XM, I have to travel over about a quarter of a mile of forest track to reach the road and when I get there its full of potholes, you can feel the big holes in the Citroen but once you get moving on the lanes the XM is smooth. Having driven hydropnumatics for many years I have got used to them and anything with springs feels hard - apart perhaps for the big Jags, but they don't do a manual estate.
Hi
I'm got some fairly basic Sale of good act 1979 warranty questions about a second hand car purchase.
I purchased a Volkswagen Passat TDI estate 2 and a half months ago from a car dealer. The car has since developed a hot start issue that prevents the car from starting if it's been recently run and the engine is hotter than 60. As soon as engine temperature drops below 60 degrees or so will start first time.
We've had this problem diagnosed by a local VW garge ans it's been diagnosed as P3007 (camshaft position sensor signal missing) and P0341 (camshaft position sensor 1 signal improbable) error. In other words a campbelt replacement job £500-£600.
The dealers Terms and Conditions are the standard:
The vehicle is supplied as roadworthy at the date of delivery and is supplied subject to any conditions or warranties that are implied by The Sale of Goods Act 1979 or any amended statute in the case of the consumer sales (as defined by The Sale of Goods Act 1979).
i) prior to signing this order form the purchaser shall examine the vehicle and the items set in the Purchasers Certificate of Examination overleaf and the Purchaser is reminded that the condition of merchantable quality implied the Sale of Goods Act 1979 does not operate in relation to such defects which that examination ought to reveal. Should the goods be sold also subject to defects notified by the dealer to the purchaser before signing the agreements, the condition of merchantable quality above referred to does not operate in relation to those defects.
In my view the car I've purchased is not reasonably reliable.
Given that the purchase was less than three months ago am I covered under the The Sale of Goods Act 1979?
Can the dealer insist that their garage try to fix this?
Thanks for your help Read more

I am not sure from the above why a cambelt replacement is required?
This weekend I noticed my spare wheel had been stolen. The only place it has been since it's MOT last year, where they had my keys while I was not with the car (the wheel is in the boot - keys essential), was either the Audi Garage that serviced it, or Gatwick Valet parking. The parking was the "official" Gatwick airport parking and the check in/out form does not mention spare wheels as part of the check, but no doubt says they are not responsible for anything.
Any ideas as to my chances of getting compensation from one of these places, or how I should go about it? I can't be the only one who has had a wheel stolen from them. I use the parking regularly and I don't see anybody checking for a missing spare when they collect cars, and noone really looks until they need it - which as in my case, was months after. Read more

Three wheels on my wagon and I go rolling along...........
I recently had the experience of roadside parking Friday night/Saturday morning in Lewes. The sign on the ticket machine clearly stated charges only applied Monday to Friday 8-6, BH included. You guessed it. By 11 am Saturday morning, I had a parking ticket. Only in daylight did I see that the plate sign further up the road said charges Monday-Saturday.
I have appealed - result unknown as yet, but what galls me is that the signs all look at least a couple of years old, so this little trick must have been in operation for a long time.... Read more
Take photo's of the machine and the restriction signs. I'd guess if you can tolerate the appeals process you could have a good case, however................................
this car is for sale for 5k , 2007 reg, 14000 miles only, however it has been writen off cat c. The seller seems a decent guy and he asures me that he only did some body work to the driver side. He changed the driver side door panel, driver side front wing panel and the front bumper. I saw the car today and I have to admit it looks like new. I took it for test drive and can not really complain. There is a lot of discussion around this topic, still do not know what to do.
Anyone can help with some advice please? Has anyone had similar dilema?... Read more
I would be extremely wary . - for a lateish low mileage car to be written of as cat c it would usually need to have taken a knock hard enough to cause some suspension and chassis damage requiring a body jig. That's fine if an insurance approved bodyshop/main dealer is doing the work but how do you know the quality of the work is good ?. Or was the car written of after a minor bump because it was already a cat C car from a previous major accident ?.
Personally I only buy older cat d cars now for my own use and later high mileage cat d's and never anything on a cat c. And I would only buy a damaged car direct from a salvage yard so i know exactly how severe the damage is. , And then i would expect to keep the car for myself over several years until it's trade in value was low anyway...
Hi guys i've a 98 opel astra G 1.8, couple of months ago the EML came on on the dash the car kept on cutting off when trying to start it, it would drive but every time i slowed down it would cut off.
I brought it to a mechanic he plugged it in and the code P0505 came up, he cleaned the throttle body the only difference this made was when i started the car cold and reved it for about a min or 2 it would stay on without cutting of but the drive of the car was still the same, when i reach an ideal speed that i would like to remain the car starts jerking very badly and the speed increases and decreases while my foot sits still on the accelerator,
I have since replaced the throttle body to no joy. I went back up to him he plugged it back in got same code he went over everything couldnt see any problems, any idea's would be greatly appriecated as it is at the moment i'm only getting 30 miles for ten euro just can't afford it! Read more
My annual mileage has dropped slightly to 20k.
In this 20k I have a 30 mile round-trip to work 6 days a week (15 miles each way). 6-7 miles on main A road then 7-8 miles of B roads with roundabouts every 2 miles or so... Read more

I had 2 grand to spend maximum - had to be an auto (auto only license at the time) and had to be 'reliable' so everyone told me to buy a Japanese. Had I known at the time that it was just a nicer looking mondeo - I would have looked elsewhere...
