In this week’s “Classic Car Weekly” one of the contributors mentioned that his car was build within 17 days of his date of birth. Set me wondering how many people own a car built on their date of birth or the same age as themselves. The closest I have been in is a car that was registered 7 years and 20 days after my birth. Lots of interesting cars from my year including Chevy, XK140 and Jaguar MkVIII. Hard to decide which one I would buy if I had both the money and space. Read more

Top marks to Raineman, its a Seven but of early Caterham flavour. This particular car started life as a x-flow 4 speed before I updated it to 2 litre Zetec with 5 speed, now on fuel injection. Hardly original but much more usable. Next project is to do the same with an early Escort or Cortina, just need to find the right car to start with. If a Chevette or Sunbeam came up I could be persuaded, swapping engines on old RWD cars is easy.

Interesting! Perhaps you could do a quick guide. I have a RWD Escort project car that is currently (and slowly) having sills, floors, A posts, etc replaced/repaired. Improved performance and fuel consumption would be a win win situation.

Could be either a bad earth connection or water/damp might have got in to the locking mechanism, which may need to be dried out.

t's probably a failed temperature sensor which controls the fan relay and switches it on or off..

There is a slight miss under acceleration and the fuel economy does'nt seem that grate at 40mpg. Have hooked it up to the snap on solus pro but no fault codes showing. However when I go into the engine managment data ,and under fuel circuit information scroll down to cylinder injection flow correction %, No 1,2 and 3 cylinders show betwee 97-100% but No 4 cylinder is showin 66.3% - 66.7% when the car is running. When the engine is switched off No 1,2 and 3 show 0% but No 4 is still at 66.3%. Have previously changed No 4 Injector with No3 but made no difference.

Any help would be appreciated... Read more

Thanks. I thought it definately worth checking the rockers, and changing some on a citoren picasso hdi a while ago was a doddle ,but when I saw what was involved in removing the rocker cover which is half way under the bulk head I decided to leave it for a while(next christmas)

I own a Vauxhall Corsa 2002 automatic/ tip tronic (?) petrol car. I am having a number of problems that are likely caused by the same thing:

1. Since December it occasionally decides not to start. It will turn over but won't maintain the revs and dies. Also the dashboard display goes blank including the gear indicator and mileometer. If left for a while (Ie a few hours) and try again it usually will start. ... Read more

I seem to recall the fix is to thump the dash, as the previous poster said, a bad connection.

If the fault reoccurs, give it another bash....

Why is it, and it is becoming more common, that vendors put a headline price of £999 and then at the end of the advert say its a mistake and it is really £2300? If I'm looking for a car £2000 plus, the car won't come up in the search. Equally if I want a car for under £1000, finding one listed at 999, which at the end is 2300 isn't going to be of interest.

It starts with a Solid Works animation. This is never good. Graduate trainees can create 'working' Escher constructions on Solid Works. No mention of a working prototype.

Holset experimented with passenger car turbos way back but figured it was more profitable / in line with the owner's core business not to go the passenger car route.

Bet they rue that decision! Isn't it ironic that today's state of the art passenger engines are fundamentally based on 1960's truck engines? (Diesel, direct injection bowl-in-piston, HP turbocharged etc)? Formula 1 are still irrelevantly buzzing away at 19000 RPM and no one is listening.
