Chevrolet Matiz - Car is economic write off - how do I register it? - kevin67h

I was hit from behind and all that insurance side of stuff is now sorted out.

My car was/is an economic insurance car write-off.

The garage (a national chain) said that the car is still structurally sound but that the spare wheel well was crumpled and sould cost more to repair than the car is worth.

How do I register my car as being on the road again, please?

Many thanks.

If it's a Category D writeoff then you should be able to just get a new V5 from the DVLA.

If it's a Category C writeoff then you would need to get a Vehicle Identity Check performed before you can do so.

NB: "Structurally sound" in this case means that it can be repaired (Cat C or D rather than A or B), not that it doesn't need to be.

Thank you for that wonderful reply. You have no idea how few people seem to know what to do in these situations! As it is, I am in the process of booking my car in for a Vehicle Identification Check VIC to begin the process. This has led to another question which I have posted. Many thanks for your time to reply TeeCee.
