I fit winter tyres in the winter of 2009/ 10 on a hanging old VW Sharan.  Passes a Rav 4 and Freelander on an uphill slope that they couldn't manage.  That's it for me.  Winter tyres every year.  To be honest I kleave them on all year round as the car's just a local runabout, but I'm not sure how wise that is... copes with the recent floods and mud well though.

On the subject of Hj's unbiased epica review, which is a pretty fair description of the car and its handling qualities, a small point to make about the handling. A month ago. my friendly Vauxhall dealer here in carmarthen fitted 4 "new" michelin tyres where his customer buying a new car didn't want them, so I got them for a bargain £316 fitted, 4x 205/60r16s inc the dreaded vat.

What a good buy, The noise level from the tyres is greatly reduced, which is nice, but the biggest bonus is the handling of the car. Completely transformed compared to the original tyres fitted from new. I am sure that a road test on michelins would have converted into more sales.... Read more

not like the shell pocked tracks of a middle east war zone that we have in the midlands.

I have "visited" a couple of the countries near jordan and the roads are no worse than the uk, Beirut is wonderful, with all the jeep type pick up things on street corners with a man and a big gun! But very friendly, not expensive and pretty safe. Worst moment.. negotiating the taxi fare from the airport to downtown. Israel , highways and main roads all excellent. Jordan, main highways excellent, but watch out for the undertaking traffic.... and the speed traps every few miles, but amman to aqaba no worse than the M1 M6 etc

Just looked on the "Everylttlehelps" website and found an insignia, 2008/58. 32000 miles at what looked a reasonable price, but then read the terms and conditions, last service at 23000 :LAST feb, So called out of curiosity One month RAC premium warranty, what about soga? Oh, you can extend the warranty but all breakdown costs excluded.. and will the car be serviced at a main dealer before delivery, we'll find out and let you know.. OK. I'll think about it, And in one of the dailys they are alledgedly selling 2000+ vehicles a a month.

You can't see the car till you have bought it... and i would never do that for a 3 yr old car, (will risk it for a 6 month old still under warranty.. but not from a "retail trade sales". Too many unaswered questions for me, and for very little more there are plentyof carsupermarts where you can see the cars at very similiar prices.... Read more

I think part of the problem is that, unlike old cars, modern cars tend not to fail gracefully. They either work as new-or not at all. Existing problems are often insidious.

Old cars would often gradually succumb to rust and mechanical wear. These problems were often obvious and progressive. It was quite easy to place a value on a used car....

At any time when driving, all dashboard lights come on and engine loses all power though keeps running, then all goes back to normal after a few seconds or so: then it may or may not do it again. Also intermittently, engine won't start and again all dashboard lights are on: if the car is rocked, it will start, sometimes immediately, sometimes after several rockings. This began about 3 months ago after turbo pressure hose was replaced though garage say there is no link between the problems.

Garage has checked, sprayed and tightened main connections to multi plug in passenger pillar and also one behind dashboard; found a bare wire shorting to engine and replaced all glow plugs.... Read more

I have owned a Chevrolet Lacetti 1.4 SE from new and it is now 2 years 9 months old.It has fully service history and has done 21000 miles.Recently the engine management light has come and I took it to the main dealer. Before I did this the light went out.The dealer replaced the coils and spark plugs. However even after this repair the light has been coming on and off at random! It has a tendency to come on after I have filled up with petrol.I use Shell unleaded but on the dealers advice I am trying Shell V Power with some Redex in the tank as well. The light is still coming on and off at random.During this time I have noticed no lack of performance, sluggishnes etc.My warranty expires in March 2012 so I would be grateful if somebody could come up with a solution to my problem.Hers hoping iceman55

If you are doing lots of short journeys.. and your mileage suggests you are, it is likely the EGR valve is carbonned up or your injectors are ditto. V Power has a larger than normal detergent additives - which suggest your garage think the same.

Strip and clean EGR valve is one option but may not be teh cause....

The Plastic around the top of the Dipstick corroded and broke into 3 pieces. One of the pieces has fallen down the Dipstick Pipe. Is there a cage or something at the bottom of this Pipe that will prevent that bit of plastic from entering the Sump?

If it does enter the sump can it cause any damage?... Read more

Hi Collos25,

Spoke to the PSA/Citroen Dealership and the guy in their Spares Department said I should not worry because the Plastic (Bakelite?) pieces will be prevented from entering the Oil Pump because of a "trap" and a "Ball Bearing' in the inlet that filters out these objects in the sump. He suggested I buy a new Dipstick (with the bakelite collar) but could not offer me a completely metal one. I think I will wait for PSA/ Citroen's South African Head Office to open in the New Year and try to get better information from a Technical guy there before I use my car or send it in to get the Sump removed.
