My v reg 800 sterling, cost pennies to buy, and now has 108,000 on the clock, is the 2.5 KV6 and runs on lpg and hasn't missed a beat in 4 years and 40K.When i read of others with modern diesels, and the cost in general of modern cars, their dpf problems etc I despair. Any thoughts? Read more

Bringing the thread together....that's one problem that the Rover 800 never had - a handbrake which was affected by the radio.

I have never had, and hope never to have, a car whose handbrake has anything to do with the radio.

My TDCi has just had to have the fuel tank drained and lines cleared due to water in the diesel. Most of it will have been bought in Poole, Dorset. Has anybody else had a similar problem recently?

The Shell Garage, Darby's Corner Poole is currently being rebuilt with new tanks. Anybody know if there is a connection? Read more

Both have screw-in caps covered with locking flaps. The Focus does not go far and is garaged at home. The Mondeo goes to France etc, it stands on the drive at home. With both having the same problem, identified at the same time and both having to have the same work done to remedy I still think the problem stems from a local underground tank. Against, nobody else is coming formward and Trading Standards have not identified a problem.

Hi All,

I know it is generally bad form to sign up to a new forum and immediately ask for advice/assistance from veteran members.. I can only beg a little latitude in this case.. I'm not usually much of a petrol head.... Read more

Hi DD.

I to have experienced DSG 7 speed clutch disengaging while on a steep hill in the Lake district. Pulling over on a very steep and narrow road to let other cars past holding the car on the foot brake for afew seconds. As fast as it takes to swop the foot from the brake to the accelerator the car had started to roll back. This was the last thing i expected due to us having an Auto Vectra that never rolls back....

Hi all,

my son's car has started to cut out as he is approaching a junction, traffic lights etc. It always re-starts first time. It has also cut out once as he was accelerating from a minor road on to a major one. Any thoughts?... Read more

Hi

I'm posting on behalf of a friend who has a Polo 2004 (1.2), and she keeps on having an issue where she goes to switch on the front wipers, but nothing happens. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.... ... Read more

Our 2003 Citroën Berlingo 2.0 HDi has been amazingly trouble-free for 200 000 km. (we live in France). Extremely reliable, comfortable, roomy, we love it.

Then Oct 2009 the clutch cable broke. A main dealer replaced it but said that the diaphragm had become hardened and the clutch mechanism needed replacing. We shopped around and our nearby independent Citroen specialist got the job.... Read more

Does anyone know how to enter Self-Diagnostic Mode on a Ford Focus 2 fitted with a Key-Free System ? Read more

MikeTorque

Found out how to do this.

Press and hold in the instrument cluster SELECT/RESET button and then depress the "Ford POWER" button once (the engine will not start but the electrics are turned on). Continuing holding in the SELECT/RESET for around 5 seconds until TEST is displayed in the odometer. The SELECT/RESET button must be released within 3 seconds of TEST being displayed to ensure the Self-Diagnostic test mode can be continued.

To scroll through the test mode data press the SELECT/RESET button once to advance each step through the data, eventually DTC data will be displayed, DTC should show 0 if no faults have been logged, otherwise a fault code of some sort will be logged if an error of some sort has been detected....

Has anyone fitted any noise insulation that actually helps reduce road noise and other external noise entering into the cabin of a Ford Focus mk2 ?

One area of concern is the rear hatch floor covering that allows some road noise to entry the cabin. Can anyone suggest something that is easy to fit and not too expensive that would help ?... Read more

What's the product/brand you used ?

Did you turn up the existing wheel arch covers and fit the soundproofing underneath or over the top of the existing wheel arch carpet cover ?

Did you add soundproofing to the boot area ? (underneath or over the existing wheel cover)

Hello, I need a van-based car, I'm a practical kind of woman- more likely to fall in love with a camper van than a posh car! I wouldn't care if something looked like a giant shopping trolley if it was economical & hard wearing) I've done all the research & a Berlingo would do the job. Trouble is I have #1,600 to spend. (that's supposed to be a pound sign) I found a 2001 Berlingo Multispace 1.9 forte on budget at local garage who are members of trading standards fair play scheme. (is that as good as it sounds?) I cannot find any mechanics-savvy person to view the car with me. I'm ok with the sluggishness & lack of power. I know to look at the suspension, check cam belt has been changed, major service done, screen washers, door dents, rust on silencer etc but I don't actually know where these things are! I plan to test drive it on a bumpy road & up & down steep hills. It has 3 months warranty & I should be able to knock price down for cash. I can do my best to check everything but if I still cant find anyone to look with me my plan was to buy it & get it looked at on a ramp straight away... is that a silly idea? I know that if I end up buying it, I'll suddenly be surrounded by mechanic friends saying "Ohh you didnt buy one of those... why didn't you ask me!!" Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks. I used to own a ZX with the XUD non-turbo engine & that had a very stiff throttle.

As previously stated, the throttle cable takes a wide route to the injection pump, but a new one wouldn't cost much & would improve the smoothness....

I recently had my front fog light that stopped working on my 307 HDi 110bhp 2003. Both lights went at the same time so I thought I would have to change both bulbs which I tend to do for the H7 bulbs anyway. I replaced the bulbs but still not working. On inspection, the bulbs looked fine.

I tried to change/inspect the fuse (F6 15A) and replaced it by a new one but no luck!... Read more

The green light does appear on the dashboard so at least it won't be the comms 2000, about £100 on ebay but not sure about changing it, disconnecting airbag...

I have not tried to use a multimeter but I would not expect any current coming through...I might take it to a local mechanic, he doesn't charge for a diagnostic as soon as you go through the door!
