First of all, after having the car for a couple of years, every now and then I would put the key in the driver's side lock to unlock and all of the windows would come down, the key getting temporarily stuck. I have always had to unlock/lock the vehicle by putting the key in the lock as the remote function has never really worked, despite batteries in the keys being replaced etc.
Today, the windows came down and the key got COMPLETELY stuck. With a bit of wriggling, the key came free but the lock failed to operate and the key just now moves around in the lock i.e. it turns, but will not lock.... Read more
I need to go on a trip carrying 2 slim roof boxes on top of my car. Unfortunately both boxes open on the right hand side so I am thinking of fitting one backwards so I can open the boxes on either side of the car.
Anybody knw of any reason why I shouldn't do this? Both boxes are Thules if it makes any difference.
Thinking back to my old physics days, surely a blunt front and a pointy back is actually more aerodynamic anyway.....
Thoughts most welcome. Read more
A cheap big box might be a better idea.

Have got a problem with my wifes car.About a month ago it stalled and would not start,we went back two days later to tow it to a garage. On arriving at the car i decieded to see if it would start. It did so i drove it to the garage,we got there and they said if the engine diognostic light wasn/t on they wouldn,t be able to get a fault code.so we left and since covered 368miles fully loaded and in all driving speeds around town and motorway, not a moments trouble.Until now ! the engine starts to stall when coming to a stop, when it does stall when starting its lumpy when revved, the last time two days ago it backfired and since run perfectly. Now we have taken it back to the garage they said the exhaust manifold was cracked and welded it. they put it on their diognostic mechine, and said its reporting large voltage fluctuations on the lambda sensor. They said we could try changing the sensor £100 pound and it may cure the fault, but i think it may be what ever sends the voltage to it,i cant afford a gamble of £100.what do you think,my wife uses the car for work and ferrying around our two and five year olds and i work away most of the time so not around to get them if it fails again.Any advice much appreciated. How does the engine behave in the first 20 seconds or so after a cold start? The lambda sensor is inoperative during this time.
How does the engine behave when you stamp on the throttle? The output from the lambda sensor is ignored under wide open throttle....
Hi, i've just started a new job that doesn't supply a company van like my old job did, meaning that my 3 Litre Hilux Surf is now my daily commute instead of just off roading toy..

Corsa is a pile of rubbish disguised as a car. I learnt to drive in one. Horribly uncomfortable, twitchy and naff.
You put the Ram in the list. You ask for suggestions/comments. I comment.
Evening,
A few weeks ago I picked up a second hand 306 HDI (90) 2001 306 Estate. When I tried the rear wiper the washer spray didn't work, could hear the motor spinning but no water. I then disconnected the hose from the rear motor nozzle and pulled down a section of the head liner at the rear, there was a pipe connected joiner that was blocked and managed to sort this.
All fine so far, water now spraying freely from the removed pipe no problems now. When I plugged the pipe back onto the 90 degree elbow nozzle on the motor, water was spraying out of the bottom of the elbow.
Went to a dealer and they thought there was supposed to be a small cap on it, but I'd need a whole new motor assembly. Found one on eBay, but when it arrived it had exactly the same problem. Bit difficult to explain, can show photos somewhere if need be. Has anyone had/seen this before?
Thanks in advance.
Pete

I had the same problem. All I did was plug the hole by stuffing a cut down pencil eraser in it and super glueing it in place. All toppped off with a dab of silicone sealant. Just make sure you don't push the eraser (or whatever you use) too far in or you might block the path of the fluid to the jet.
I did it about 18 months ago and I haven't had any problems since.

very likely to be the actuator rod/paddle at the back of the lock barrel broken.A very common fault on many vag models. It is usually possible to buy a repair kit.The door lock barrel can be removed without taking off door card.hth
