It seems the world may have changed and having blacked-out back windows does not necessarily indicate that you are, or would like the world to think you are, a pimp or drug dealer.

I've seen a new C-Class coupe, that is an ideal spec for me apart from it having 'Privacy Glass'. I'm in my early 40s. Should I go for it? Read more

On the M6 this avvy - a purple Triumph Stag. What a beauty. Brave driving it in snow - tyres quite skinny so the Stag hasn't much issue but I'd be nervous of somebody else sliding into it on the ice! Read more

The power steering went on my 18 year old daughters car a 2005 micra 2 weeks after she bought it 10 months ago. At a cost of £900 we had the power steering reconditioned and refitted. It lasted for 6 months, then just as she drove herself to her new Uni City 100 miles away it went again after she had to do a tight turn. It got fixed again for a nominal fee (£200) and lasted approximately 2 weeks. This time the diagnostics pointed to the motor which was fixed again at a reduced price. This lasted for 10 minutes after it was delivered back to us. There is patently nothing wrong with the Power Steering, but something else which is shorting it out or something else electronic. Could anyone out there please suggest what the actual problem might be and what might be replaced other than the actual power steering. So far we have spent over £1000 and still she is not happy to drive the car. It is quite tough on tight manouvring for an inexperienced driver.

Can any Nissan mechanics help us with this problem. It is becoming infuriating and expensive. Thanks for any help. Read more

Well done Steve,
Body work is one of the most difficult of the car repair skills to master.
From what you say the car looks more presentable now.

I found that applying heat from a heat gun helps to shrink the metal back to shape.

just been reading an article about engenie young drivers insurance very interesting including the part about fitting a device to monitor there driving to gain discounts on there insurance ,so i thought its worth a look and lets get a quote for my son.I couldnt believe the figures they came back with for a 17 yr old just passed there test with a 1.3 escort h reg as the vehicle £4682.00 and after they monitor the driving for 12 months it would be £4220.So i decided to go to compare the market for a quote and the cost was £2457.00,the ad for engenie was supposed to encourage young drivers to drive sensibly and gain good discounts it seems to me they are just trying to jump on the bandwagon of clobbering young drivers and grab a share of the market rather than help overcome an ever increasing problem. Hi,
I recently bought a Peugeot 2008 reg, 47000 miles .tidy thing generally good condition.

I did all the usual checks, HPI ,checking with the manufacturer to see if any warranty or recalls had been done on the car, to check the mileage ,when they were done .no problems with the mileage were detected.

I had the cars first MOT done so a VOSA check didn't exsist.

I bought the car without a service history.

I sold the car to a couple who kept it about six months and then part exchanged it with a main dealer.

The main dealer disposed of the car through a local auction house .

The auction house told the main dealer they had previously sold the car with 147000 miles.

The main dealer now wants my buyer to reimburse them to the amount of
£2000.For the supposed higher mileage.

What I'm hoping forum members can help with is a point of law .

Given that I had done all the checks it was possible to do ,and no problems were found ,what's the extent of mine and my customers liability.

Have any forum members come across a similar issue.

In short ,can we be liable even though I wasn't dishonest or reckless in the transaction.

As I said earlier ,what I'm looking for is a legal precedent to quote ,as it looks as though we could end up in court.

I tend to agree with avant. I havent seen many peugeots carry that sort of mileage off without ringing alarm bells.

I'm sure as an experinced sales guy you would of spotted one clipped back that far. It sounds more like a clerical error somewhere along the line....

Hi,
I just failed my C test for clipping a kerb, gutted as I knew the turn and had been around it 4 times this week without clipping the kerb but let myself get intimidated by a bus on the test :-(

However, the examiner also gave me my one of three minor faults for not checking tail swing when turning right.
I know and understand tail swing, but what is the correct way to check for it when turning, and how should I complete a right turn correctly when traffic is passing in the near side lane?

Thanks!! Read more

I have a 1997 Mondeo estate that has been off the road for a couple of years. I'm planning to get it road worthy again, barring any expensive problems being found. It runs well and should be going again shortly.

The battery had been charged occasionally, but apparently not regularly enough. It was found to be flat and the car was jump-started but died on disconnecting the good battery. A new battery was obtained and the car starts easily and runs with this. However, the alternator warning light now comes on, but didn't previously. The alternator had been replaced in the past few years, the original having expired after 100,000+ miles; the replacement has probably done less than 10,000. Does anyone know if there's any component in the alternator or charging circuit that might have been cooked by trying to run the engine with a dud battery? I'd imagine it coukld be the voltage regulator and I,ll have to get a new alternator, unless someone can direct me towards some fuse or a similar cheaply repairable component. Thanks for any & all suggestions. Read more

As far as I know all the regulating electronics are in the alternator, if the engine stopped when you disconnected the battery there was obviously no output from it so if all the connections are OK a new one will be needed.

I've just replaced the head gasket on my bog standard V reg (99/2000) Pug 106 1124 with Bosch MA3.1 Engine Management System.

After putting it all back together (except for the timing belt cover) the engine warning light comes lights up on the dash. The engine barely turns over (about half a turn) and smoke starts coming out of the wiring loom where the wires split off to connect to the thottle body.... Read more
