As suspected by several on this forum, new car sales are again slumping in the UK, despite the apparent long waiting lists on certain models. Various newspapers have reported a sharp downturn in sales over spring, a supposedly buoyant time for car sales. My local Honda dealer, without any prompting, quoted £3K off any new Accord and 3 years free servicing. (We were at the dealership to check out a used FR-V, not buy a new Accord!)

This malaise will probably extend across Europe. Spain economy is hobbled. France and German banks have lost gazillions lending to Greece, and may need nationalised (taxpayer) money to stay 'healthy'. Basically, less and less people will be shelling out on new wheels, and even then on something more modest, than they might have bought before, or a used car. All this means big revenue loss for car makers.... Read more

Why should I go for the 2.0TFSI over the 1.8TFSI? Audi CLAIM latter is 4mpg more economic & there is little difference in insurance/tax. Read more

Although a factory fitted option I assume the wiring is already in place, therefore can it be retrospectively fitted by a dealer?

Alternatively will I have to get it fitted by a specialist? Read more

Hi all

I finally passed my test last year and picked up a V reg 306 1.4,. I'd loved 306s since I was a kid and despite a few niggling, typical Peugeot promblems with the car absolutely love it, it's comfortable, great fun to drive, feels a lot faster than it is due to the low seating position and makes a lovely little growl at high speeds.... Driving along a dual carrige way the other day with my daughter a motorist made a "U Turn " in one of the gaps, seriously dangerous on the A303 ! and I said well were in a " Clearway" zone with the Blue cuircle with the red cross and red ring around the outside and she said , yeah but thats just no stopping ! I said it is No Stopping or U turns and she said since she has learnt to drive its just said no stopping ! so looked it up in the highway code ( latest book ) and sure enough it just says "no stopping "

so has this changed ? have I missed something ?... Read more

Passed my test in 1969 and there was not anything about U turns on clearways IIRC.The main eastern commuter road into Embra, A1, was a clearway.

Basically no stopping or parking . The A6 locally in Derbyshire is a clearway but I've done U turns on several occasions when the road was blocked by accidents....
