Took delivery 01-03-11 from Marshalls of Leicester. £8350 including full tank. This is my twentieth car (excluding hired vehicles) and cheapest. Excellent value, good performance, superb transmission. 40+mpg on short town trips, 50+mpg on motorways. Easy to park and a pleasure to drive.

Hi guys.
The warning buzzer that normally comes on when you open your drivers door with the lights on has stopped working, I've googled like mad but can't find any answer to what the problem could be. It stopped working at the same time as the interior lights for the drivers door. (the lights still come on when you open the passenger door) I'm assuming they are connected but don't know how. Any help would be appreciated.... Read more
Sounds like the pin switch for the drivers door isn't working. Can't recall if it's externally mounted on the A pillar or integral with the door stay or door lock mechanism.
If it mounted on the A pillar then its usually only held in place with one screw. Undo, extract switch from the hole, and check the wire(s) is still attached. If it is, then the switch will just need cleaning or replacing.
Hi. Well, what a nightmare. My son is 17 and passed his test in April. We've been looking at cars costing around £1000 which is the easy bit. Having had some silly insurance quotes were now realising it's going to be impossible for him to insure a car. Judging by some of the prices his friends are paying it's obvious they're going down the fronting route and only being a named driver despite them being the main driver, which I always thought was illegal. Is there any way of getting reasonable insurance for a teenager? Read more
It means im bored s***less of discussing things on which my opinion wont budge and neither with anybody elses regardless of what gets said.
I live halfway up a 1 in 4 in Wales and my Landcruiser has been of enormous benefit in the snow. However it is expensive to run so I was looking for a smaller SUV as a replacement. The RAV 4 looked ideal until we found it now comes without a spare wheel, just a foam can. We occasionally take long trips through France and have suffered several punctures in the past . You can't go far on runflats or foam and replacements can be hard to find (and expensive) in the middle of the continent on a Sunday. Also foam won't work on blow outs or large punctures. It seems that manufacturers are omitting spares now in the interests of reducing weight and carbon emissions . It would be useful to have a list of UK cars which still have a spare. Does anybody know of one? Read more
I believe that landrover's freelander has a full size spare.
Only on certain models....
2001 peugeot 406 hdi. I cleaned the dozier or dozier valve on said car during the week.
Next day I noticed a lack of acceleration accompanied by black smoke.....the car will not rev beyond 2500 rpm and struggles to reach 40mph.
The car starts fine and idles at a steady 800 rpm....prior to me cleaning the "dozier" valve car ran sweet returning 50 plus mpg....oil was always changed at 5000 miles.
It is like the car has gone into limp mode and is undriveable at the moment.....how would removing the said valve cause this or was it just a coincidence ...?there is no engine management light showing either.
I know i will probably need to put car on a computer but any advice appreciated. Read more
Funny you should mention the MAF sensor, i have just taken it out to clean it....the wire element you speak of is intact and have gave it a blast of electricalswitch cleaner.
Thought I had problem sorted earlier when I removed the glow plugs and discovered a duff on.......bought a replacement and...no joy still wont rev beyond 2-2500 rpm....
Great idea to start the running report on the new Volvo. Thought I'd give a try at one on my older car which I bought three years ago at 94k and registered in 2000 .I've got to 130k now and apart from normal servicing I had one large bill for a pse pump of £600 and was quoted £600 to fix the convertible roof at the main dealers. I got it done at an indie for £100. I reckon I'm getting around 27/29 a gallon driving light footed but this drops if I have a day of enthusiastic right foot. The bodywork is showing no signs of rust but the windscreen is pitted from stones etc and will need replacing in the near future. I had a rough running problem but this was some electric thing which was quick and cheap to fix. i needed discs all round and a door mirror glass but this was soon after I bought it from an excellent indies who bore most of the cost. The car was £10,000 to buy but I got a decent px on my old C class diesel and parted with about £7,500. I can cruise all day at legal limits with the engine barely ticking over but being rear wheel drive in the snow its not very practical. The interior is wearing wel too. I reckon its worth something like £4,500 to £5,000 privately so three years has cost me about £5,000 capital. Insurance is £280 and tax just under £200. Mot soon so fingers crossed. Read more
They're a very nice cruiser, sounds like you got a good one there. They can lift their skirts and fly when needed, too :)
I have just lost my third rear windscreen on my Renault Espace in less than 18 months. They have all 'popped' without explanation. The car has always been parked when the screens have broken and Autoglass who fitted them are as puzzled by the problem as I am. Any thoughts?
I had a work colleague who used to lose front screens on his Vectra. After a lot of investigation it appears that it had fallen off the transporter, been repaired but was still twisted.
Unless of coure, any of your neighbours have recently bought catapults, air rifles or the like!....
My Ford Focus has an annoying rattle which starts when the car reaches 50 mph. It comes from behind the glovebox and sounds like a piece of paper or plastic trapped in the left vent.
I have been in touch with another 2007 Focus owner with exactly the same problem. He also knows other people who have experienced the same rattling noise starting at 50 mph.... Read more
Probably the wheel arch liner flapping around, this is a well known problem with this shape Focus. On the newer Focii, they stuck a piece of foam on the liner where it touches the top of the wheel arch inside. You should be able to cure it by repositioning and tightening the liner and gluing soem strong foam on the place in question.
My car went into an independent garage to have a gearbox seal replaced. I phoned the garage yesterday and was informed that there was a problem with the car and they couldn't get it started. It was showing an error with the crank sensor. I phoned them again today to see how it was going and I have been told that they have damaged the engine and the engine will need to be replaced. It looks as though vales have been damaged.
The garage have told me that they made a mistake and caused the problem and that they are talking to their insurance company. I would like to know what rights I have?... Read more
Take my hat off to the garage if they have put their hand up to causing the damage.
They should have insurance and this should kick in but it nots always a 5 min job. I had a similar occurance once and the insurance company insisted on a betterment value, as the car had covered 130k !...

Is it a self adjusting cable or does it have an adjuster?
