My Mk6 Golf is set to longlife services, but being a bit 'old school' i just cannot agree with 18,000 miles or well over a year between oli changes.
So at about 9-10 k miles from a service, out comes the trusty Pela extractor, and the oil is swapped.... Read more
All over the German press and tv news is the story that GM reallly do want rid of Opel/Vauxhall at any cost even if it means closing down the European operation the company is making massive losses and its market share is dropping, basically they just want out, the German government has said it is not interested in any bail outs. This morning it was rumoured that VAG could be interested as they need production space as there sales are going through the roof.

It's probably another story originating from VAG who are taking over everyone if you believe all the rumours.
The problem with Opel/Vauxhall is the EU anti-competition laws - government support for Opel/Vauxhall can only come from the EC itself, not from individual countries - that's why the German financial support is outlawed unless it's used to support plants in UK, Belgium, Spain etc as well as the German plants and of course the German government won't do that.

On the way to work today I noticed that my right indicator bulb is flashing way too fast, about double the speed of the left one.... Read more
Sure you have not got a bulb out.
Hi,
i went to view a car today which i really liked, i was about to hand over some money when i thought first of all i'd look at the log book and MOT certs, he happily brought them out and we sat in the car and viewed them, i noticed a problem with one of them though...... Read more
It happened to me too, they put the mileage off the old certificate on the new one. But not quite, as their printer wasn't working I had to go back to pick it up, so it's a few miles different. Human error.
But, do you know how easy it is to change a mileage these days? I would never trust one at all, not at all, the previous owner might have changed it year by year....
Hi,
Trouble starting the engine. Don't know if it's the battery, starter motor or alternator or a combination of more than one of these! Any idea how I can narrow it down?... Read more
I just bought a second hand Peugeot 107, 06 reg plate. It makes a clunking noise when I brake gently, but only when the car has been drive for about 15 minutes and has been warmed up. I have just had new brakes and discs fitted yet they still make a noise. The garage also cannot find what’s wrong with it. Does anyone know what could be wrong with it, or how to fix the problem. It would be very much appreciated.... Read more
Its just constantly making a clunking noise when I brake, and you can't feel nothing.
I have a TomTom with European mapping, I am going to Tenerife on holiday and wan't to put my Hotel location in the Sat nav but do not understand the co-ordinates as given by the hotel::
Geolocalization coordinates... Read more
Some sat navs (including some Tom Toms) allow you to enter such lat/long coordinates. So you don't have the address? And don't have the hotel on the sat nav as a point of interest.
Running up a copy of my TomTom 720 on the Mac (handy thing to do) I see it's lat/long it is after anyway. So putting those coordinates into Google Maps finds me a hotel called Iberostar:...
Hi - I have a Ford Focus bought on HP and have been chnaging every three years. Last month for the first time in 11 years I missed a payment, yesterday I spoke to Ford Credit to say I would make a payment manually, however when I got home I noticed the car had a sticker in the top corner of the passenger side windscreen. The sticker was blue and said Ford OK and a tick. The sticker has been applied from the inside and could have been applied since Sunday as I haven't been in the car.
Could Ford have opened the car and applied the sticker? What does it mean? and is it legal for them to open the car without my permission... Read more
Absolutely - it just couldn't happen like that. There are thousands of different keys, and I can't imagine Ford Credit having some kind of super-key that opens all Fords bought on HP! Don't worry.
In this make and model where is the reset switch located.... Read more
thanks .it was what i thought it was .
Hi, i own a 1999 ford focus lx 1.6 manual petrol car, ive noticed lately that my car must be burning oil, there's no leaks, under the bonnet is fine and clean. I ticked the engine over earlier tonight, and i noticed little black specks coming out of the exhaust, landing 2 - 3 feet away on to the road, also some smoke and some water on the end of the exhaust pipe. The engine ticks over quietly, and there is no knocks, unusual noises. I did have a problem with the exhaust a while ago, there was a bit of a blockage, but after having rods put through this seemed to have fixed that particular problem. Any idea what it might now be, causing the car to burn oil? Im putting in some engine flush tomorrow, and doing a oil filter change. Any advice please? Read more
Have you checked the head Gasket??
Take the oil filler cap off and check it for a creamy substance and check the expansion tank for the same....

Count me in too. I change the oil and filter on my Passat TDi in between the 10k services using an extraction pump. It is £30 for 5 litres of Quantum VW 507 fully synthetic, £4 for a filter, less than half a tank of diesel. I'm not sure i'd do it if I didn't have the pump.
