I noticed a laminated sign on a lampost advertising "milage correction" as well as the usual chipping services. It looked like a blatant advertisement for a "wind the clock back" service.

Now that odometer readings are stored digitally, I hope it would be more difficult to turn the back than with the old mechanical clocks. But seeing a service like this makes me wonder if it's actually easier, like getting a mobile phone unlocked down the market.... Read more

regards to mileage, you could get away with just a trip meter , to calculate fuel etc and know what distance you have covered, and a service counter would suffice for when a service is due !

There again my personal car has only done 2700 miles this year so mines very low mileage but without a mileometer people may think its done more !

Hello bikers

I am looking to take a motorbike test this summer and I'd like to do one of those intensive course. I've got moped endorsement on my car license and I have occasionally ridden one but it is time to upgrade! I was wondering about the Direct Access courses as I am over 21. ... Read more

Hi the fog and reversing lights stopped working, i have checked every fuse in the holder and they are ok. the bulbs, the loom on the rear door, (i have a reversing beacon that is wired in by the rear cluster and thats not working too). I'm now thinking it could be the reverse cut out switch for the fog lights? There is a tow bar fitted. the wierd thing is after checking things on a friday evening when nothing worked i tried saturday morning and the reverse lights came on for about a min while i checked it all worked properly, then stopped again. Can anyone hep?? thanks. Read more

> There is a tow bar fitted.

Ah! Have a look at how that's fitted. You may well find a load of scotchlok-and-insulting-taped crud lurking around somewhere in the rear loom....

My car has recently been 'totalled' or 'written off'.

The Insurance Company have requested a number of documents to be produced (driving licence etc), but they have also requested copies of the original invoice at time of purchase, to prove how much I paid for the vehicle.... Read more

There is no requirement to provide the original sales invoice for a claim to be settled.

Most people would not be able to provide one anyway.

If it's the car/spanner light, then that isn't the service light.

It's the engine electronics and/or auto gearbox (if fitted) fault warning light. The fault code will need reading out....

Hi

Has anyone ever changed a wing mirror on a 2006 5 Series Saloon? I need to change the whole unit, well mainly the bracket which the mirror is hinged onto but i'm changing the whole thing. Looks like it should be fairly easy but I don't want to force trim off and end up snapping clips.... Read more

I live in a small village in a residential road with house on one side fields on the other, I live at number 6 of 6 houses, the road is pretty narrow and we all for obvious reasons park on the property side of the street.

I went to work on Friday morning to be asked by a work buddy "what the hell have you done to your car", on investigation the rear passenger side has three deep scrapes down the car some as low as the bottom of the sill rough estimate £1000 of repair bill (car is only woth £2000) i returned home no sign of the farmer (3 different farmers use our road as its a dead end onto their fields) so thus contacted the police. Very little help they were its 3 days now and they havent even been to look at my car, just details over the telephone. You can clearly see its been damadged by a farm implenmt not another car or van.... Read more

Ive been to see an Inspector friend he looked at the car,,he says if it comes to it they will measure the distance between scrapes down the side and look for an implement with relevant measurements, its now boiled down to the one single farmer as the other two havent been down for a while.

The system that reads the key and allows the car to start has been playing up. Sometimes the car starts, sometimes not. A warning light on the dash blinks indicating that the key is not recognised. Visits to 3 garages (and a hefty bill in one for replacement parts supposedly fixing the problem!) have led to nothing - the problem still exists.

Has anyone else had this problem and knows a solution? The only thing I can think of is to override the key recognition system - if it is possible. This security system is useless if even I can't use the car. ... Read more
