Has anybody seen any unsual or amazing cars whilst driving about today?

I saw a Posrche Panamera on my way to work - I've never seen one of those before and thought it looked nice so I looked it up. For over £78k it ought to be nice!! Read more

My neighbour has just had his show condition bright red 1986 Ferrari 328 Mondial out. He told me it has less than 20k on the clock. Seems kind of a shame not to use a car like that. He's had it from new and drives a very bog standard Merc otherwise.

just my luck

I have been reading previous reviews regarding the disintergrtion of cambelt tensioners on xc90 can anybody let me know what there outcome was? My story briefly is: bought a 2003 xc90 with 64400 miles and was given a 28 day warrenty by the garage. On day 30 returned the car due to a loud knocking noise, the garage told me to "take it home and bring it back tomorrow and the mechanic will have a look at it for you" - guess what never made it home!! It now needs a new engine. Initially the garage offered to cover all costs of the repair if I contributed £400. Now two weeks later and my car still in pieces on the garage floor they have renaeged on there promise and are now offering to cover the cost of labour only to have it repaired once I have soured and paid for a new engine. I would appreciate any advise on where I stand / what I should do next. Read more

If you look under 'Volvo xc90 cambelt tensioner disintigrates'...I have just finalised the thread with the outcome for me. As for your problem you don't state it was the cambelt tensioner only that there was loud knocking. In any case if you buy a car from a dealer and there is a problem in the first 6 months that could be caused by an inherent defect then it is assumed that the defect was there at the point of sale. After 6months you have to prove it was there yourself. An inherent defect can manifest it self up to 6 years after purchase. The 28 day warranty that was given does not take precedence over your consumer rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1972...it is merely ancilary and doesn't let the dealer off the hook...far from it! Get a copy of the S of GA 1972 and have aread it may help in your case. Legal expenses insurance that may have been provided with your car insurance coulkd help. Intially they have a help line that advice can be given. I have to say that tenacity in these cases is the key. Don't give in at the first hurdle.

Hi,

I live in Spain and car parts are horrendously expensive here. I am trying to buy an alternator for my car from Ebay and am told it is for a 2003 model and I need to know if it will fit my 2002 model Fusion.... Read more

is your car a UK model or is it Spanish? Chances are this part number is on the alternator itself and wont be a Ford part number. this would make it unlikely to match anything on yours. You would be best to visually match it noting things like mounting lug set up, pulley offset and diamter and ampage of the alternator. Guessing theirs is 70 amp based on that part number.

If you get stuck I would be happy to send you details like this on any we have for sale. Just search morgan-autosalvage on ebay users and you will find our ebay shop. We can be contacted there or by our email with is sales@morgan-autosalvage.co.uk...

When I use the remote locking it does not open or lock the driver door. All other doors work fine. To lock the driver door I have to use the key. When using the remote fob the alarm sets as normal. Has anyone got any ideas on how to fix this? Read more

On the way down to Cornwall last week, my wipers packed up. During some heavy rain. Visibility = zero. It pained me to get towed back, but there you go. Can't drive if you can't see.

Anyway, I had a new wiper motor fitted at my local garage. Drove it home. Made the mistake of not testing them there & then as I was late for something. Tried them later and this is what I found:... Read more

As you can see from 659FBE's reply below, you could clean the switch without too much trouble, but I understand that the standard fix for wiper problems like these is a new motor, which contains a lot of the bits necessary for the different functions.

Clean switch, then change motor?

My tyres were going flat on a regular basis. All four. One day, one or two might be flat. Another day all four. Sometimes they wouldn't go flat for a week, etc. So I was scratching my head a bit other it.

I live in a rural location with old dears living both sides of me and opposite me. They tend to know what I'm doing before I do, so I ruled out somebody letting them down. Then again, it's unlikely that the neighbours would pay close attention at night. ... Read more

I had one (well two including the spare) tyres that go down over time, sometimes staying up for weeks, sometimes losing pressure in a few days - both were leaking past the valve stem. I cleaned up the area with a tooth brush and soapy water, let it dry thouroughly and then poured a little super glue round the base of the stem - problem solved. You'll have to take the wheel off though to lay it flat. The soapy water also confirmed the leak.

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me.

I;ve got a Ford Puma which has the age old heater problem (constantly blowing hot air) so I think it may be the HCV.... Read more

I changed the HCV for a genuine one, no change :( I was convinced this would be the remedy after i saw a thread in a forum where a guy had the exact same problem as me and fixed it with a genuine ford hcv.
Damn :( Now I'm pretty much back to square one and have no idea what to do next!

My S80 has done 37000 miles and runs well but about three weeks ago it started making a strange whining noise which seemed to be coming from the 6 speed auto gearbox. It was only noticeable up to about 40 MPH and seemed to occur in the lower gear ratios. I had the car checked yesterday by an auto gearbox specialist and he stated that the gearbox is fine - oil level OK, no leaks etc, He did state that the noise was hardly noticeable outside the car or under the bonnet but was most noticeable inside the car and that it seems to be coming up the steering column. I admit that is a very slight vibration felt in the steering wheel associated with the whing noise. He suggested that I ask Volvo if there are any known problems related to this issue.

Any ideas ? Read more

I will say,its better to check the tie rod end ball joint on the steering rack, check the bushes on the front lower arm suspension bushes.Could possibly be wheel bearings also check if the wheels need balancing or buckled.
