1997 Audi 80 Cabriolet - hood not working. The windows start toi move as they should but the hood does not move. The hydraulic recervoir is OK. I think it must be electrical. Local Audi dealer not interested - just wants to sell a new hood!!!

Hi all,

Some advice would be appreciated - currently considering ordering my first new car and have been given a trade-in valuation on my current car, however the dealer says this valuation will decrease 2% each month until delivery of the new car (which he estimates will be 3-4 months).

Is this reasonable and normal practice? Read more

Thanks for the advice guys. I've gone back to the dealer and told him I want a fixed price, which he is going to obtain and come back to me with (although he stated that he thinks I may do better with the non-fixed reducing price).

I'm a little restricted since the new car is coming via the Motability scheme.

Hi all

I am confused I need to change the oil in My Gransons Polo and I am being given different info as to which I should use. I will change it one a year and the mileage will be less than 10000. Can I use the more reasonably priced stuff or do I have to go fully synthetic. Also I have the same problem with my Corrolla, I have been putting 5/30 multivis semi synthetic (which was recommended to me) in it now to be told its the wrong oil. That to will do less than 10000 miles and gets changed annually. I have some older motors that I play with and they all get 15/40 and are quite happy. ... Read more

Air-bag warning light keeps appearing, it has been on almost continuously since September which presumably means I have been driving without air-bags activated. Unsurprisingly I cannot get a direct answer from the dealer. They take the car for a day to diagnose then later on another day after new parts have arrived. This has occured 4 times and the light has always appeared with in 48 hours, they seem unable to deal with this problem. Fixed yesterday, warning light on this morning!

Is this a common problem on this car? Read more

Shocked by the £296 that Fiat think I'll pay to service wifeys 3 year old Panda, I'll do the job myself.

One question. I've not serviced a car for years, and have some Millers XFD full synthetic diesel oil in the garage, where its been for at least six years. Its sealed in its unopened container.... Read more

If the Panda has a DPF, you'll probably need a more modern ashless diesel oil ... older oils can give ash by-products which quickly block the pores in the DPF matrix.

If your bottle of Millers is 5 / 6 years old it may well not have the latest ashless formulation. ...

I have a 2002 Citroen C3 since Oct 2010. However, when I am going down a slop or hill, it stalls when I put the clutch down when I want to stop. It doesn't happen when the road is level or uphill. I had the injectors and spark plugs all cleaned plus the engine has been checked by computer but nothing can be found. The car has done 70,000 miles. Read more

Cheers everyone.

The caliper in question is being sold on eBay as what appears to be redundant stock by a VW dealer. It is approx £90 less than the normal cost....

...if there are contaminants or water in the fuel when it's stored...

Good point. Not to mention the length of time the fuel has spent in the tanks. The regular stuff has a definite advantage here as the turnover is much higher.
