Hi. I need some help to find out whats wrong with the electrics on my volvo v70. When you go over a bump (plenty of them about now) all the warning lights come on the speedo goes off and includes a message display stating "Stop ASAP break failer". Sometimes stays off a good while then not, go over another bump speedo comes on again all warning lights go out. Volvo dealer said it needs a new speedo head (only one will fit my car so cannot get a used one) at a cost of £800.00 + fitting which is more than the cars probably worth. I found a USA site for buffs that had come across this problem with a Volvo and sorted it by taking the speedo out and soldering all the joints on the pannel which solved the problem. It sounds just a loose connection problem but i need a starting point and ask if anyone else has had the same thing happen and could give any useful information that could save days!. This does not affect the running of the car at all.

Is anyone else having problems with constantly having the rubber bushes wear out on their rear shocks. Bought from new 07, replaced while still in Warranty!!!!, in 09, now gone again. Surely they must last longer than this. Must be a design fault. Service Manager agrees "They havent got it right", no kidding. Read more
That explains everything, this is the worst car i have ever owned, engine, drive good.

No - I wondered what I should do. Should I just ask them what it is before saying anything else?
I have had a 2006 3 series touring for the past 4 years, for the past few months the radio reception has become very poor if I travel just even a few miles from my home. I know that the rear demister makes up part of the aerial and as we have a couple of dogs I was wondering if they could have dislodged anything. The demister still works fine. I live in Holywood just outside Belfast.
Thanks, Alan. Read more
Printed aerials on windows are poor compared to the traditional wing or roof mounted whip type. Generally such things use an amplifier (booster) to increase the signal levels, a blown fuse would be the first thing I'd look for.
Not unknown for radios to go deaf, but the easiest way by far to check the situation is if you know somebody with the same make and model of car and swap radios. Fault moving or not tells a good deal.....
Sad news.
I suppose it was inevitable. BMW have jumped on the bandwagon of electric cars. I'd hoped their excellent range of diesels would preclude them indulging the fad. Still, at least we won't see any of them trundling around until 2013. The smug ownerstalking extolling the merits of 'pollution free' motoring and the zero rated tax discs.... Read more

Hi guys, I'm new on this so apologies if this has been answered, searched everywhere but didn't find anything in this forum.
I have a problem with my cars alarm when I use the keyfob.
When i lock the car the central locking operates fine but Approx 15 seconds later the alarm goes off waking up all the neighbours! I have to unlock and lock again waiting to ensure it doesn't go off the 2nd time. I get this problem most times and dont have a clue what it maybe.
Any advice will be really appreciated. Help me pleezz.
Many thanks Read more
Check from water ingress from the rear washer onto the tailgate lock/latch mechanism, there is a micro switch that can get shorted out
Hi, I have a problem with the ABS warning light coming on within short distances of starting on a journey.Just prior to the lamp coming on,more times than not,you can hear a creaking noise from the front nearside for a few moments(possibly the modulator block area). But added to this,if I happen to load the boot with something heavy,i.e. the weight of a couple of paving slabs or several suitcases, the light stays out throughout the journey. Can anyone give me any guidance given this info before I go to the local ex Rover dealer.I have tried resistance checks on the sensors and they all seem to be acting as if they're operating. Thankyou. Read more
Hi everyone who may be interested in the outcome.I decided to have a closer look at the rear sensors for anything obvious, despite obtaining some acceptable resistance readings.I took out the offside sensor which came out quite easy, which having read some tales of having to drill them out,was a good start. The sensor tip had rusted over,so with some fine emery paper I managed to get back to shiny metal without taking too much away.I replaced everything and the light still came on but less often,so some improvement had been made.So over to the other side.Whilst taking out the sensor I realised someone in the past had made a repair to the cabling.I removed the black insulation tape and lo and behold one of the connections had loosened(which probably explains why when loaded the light would go out, maybe just making a contact in some way?).After reconnecting all the joints properly and again taking the rust off this sensors tip,I took it for a 15 min. run with an empty boot, and what joy.No more ABS light on!
I Know there are a lot of these windows posts on here, but I could not find one, on here or google, that helped me. Me and my girlfriend have just bought a 1.5 Renault Megane Dynamique. It has run into an issue within its first week. From day 2 the front passenger window has played up. It worked at first, then it wouldnt go back up from a partially opened position. Then once it was up we didn't try it for a day. Then it wouldnt go down. These troubles have persisted so far and I was wanting to find out any possible causes before taking it back to the dealer next week. ... Read more
Just for the record, as I'm sure it's been answered before, this is a very, very, very common fault with Renault Megane IIs.
The fault lies with the electronic control module that sits on top of each window motor within the door. Water gets into the door cavity, onto the module, the module is not water tight and, get enough water (i.e. the persistent rains we've had in the UK over the last couple of years) and the module fries....

You will have to take the interior trim off and wedge the window in the closed position.

I too have repaired dry joints in Volvo modules for similar issues. I suspect this will be your problem but you need to get all the obvious places checked first. I would suggest you find a sparky
