How do you resert the service indicator on V70? Read more
Hi im after a vaux auto zafira i think, any feedback on the most reliable variant? after reading the top 10 cars im confused diesel or not?
i have 5k to spend need an auto though. Read more
If you're looking at a Zafira B (late 2005 on) then the 2.2 auto will be most reliable. You may read some negative comments on the 2.2 direct, but since the fuel pressure regulator has been re-called (Vauxhall will still do it for free if you find one that hasn't been done yet), there's little to complain about. We've had a 2.2 auto for 4 years and 70k miles now, it seems unbreakable, so much so we've bought another (younger one) to match! You will find the 2.2 auto is priced a lot cheaper than the diesel. £5k should get you a 2006 car with reasonable miles. For the diesel, you'll be looking at much, much higher mileage cars.
Avoid the 1.9 CDTI auto, it's a disaster zone - there's expensive problems with EGR valves, DPF systems, swirl valves, radiators, water pumps shredding cambelts etc etc... The 6 speed auto gearbox on the CDTI is not as tough as the old 4 speed unit you get on the 2.2 petrol either....
Lack of power/misfire? at lower revs, tickover to 2000rpm, can be intermittent in severity. Engine cuts out at traffic lights if on tickover for thirty seconds but will restart immediately. Car regularly serviced, garage seems at a loss to suggest cause, nothing showing up on fault code readout. I have checked all engine compartment electrical connectors. Any suggestions on a cause or advice on where to look next?
Help would be much appreciated... Read more
What a wonderful difference that new MAF made, the car is powerful again throughout its rev range and does not cut out on tickover.
So many thanks for the tip Peter. I do after the changeover have "An emission control system malfunction" lamp lit on the dash, anyone know if this is resetable?...
Hi all
my daughter borrowed my car yesterday. She got onto the main road, and when she went to put it into 5th gear, she said it cut out and stopped. She did manage to restart it, and managed to get it back to me at 30mph only. Its chucking white smoke out. I'd like an idea of possible causes, so when I have it looked at, I'm not being ripped off. Also does it have a timing belt or chain?... Read more
Doh!
Why didn't she 'fess up-did she think no one would find out?! What are the bus services like in your area?
Hello. I have recently bought a 2000 Renault megane 1.4 16v. I was told when I bought it that the cambelt had been replaced recently by an independant garage. I do not have the receipt, but was assured that it had been done. As the engine was running rough, I took it to a local renault specialist, who checked the cam timing. They said that the timing was out, & could not be fixed without replacing the cambelt again. Am I wrong to assume that if I was to get proof that the cambelt was done by this garage not so long ago that they would have to sort it out? The renault specialists said that timing was probably out because they did not use a special key. Any info/advice would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance Read more
to correct the cam belt timing is almost as big a job as replacing the belt. If I were a garage putting it right I too would fit new belt etc as you would expect a warranty and I would not be prepared to warranty someone else's parts. Yes there are special tools for a 1.4 16v and those that attempt to do without the correct tools do so at a high risk.
Went in to my Mazda dealer today to ask if there were any Mazda supply problems and to ask about deals on the Takuya Special Edition. He has told me that there are supply problems due to the Japanese earthquake but also that the Takuya is not being produced any more. Does anyone know if this is correct? Read more
Whilst driving when I ease off on the accerlator pedal the engine becomes somewhat jumpy & hestitent. When I'm accerlating the engine is not jumpy and is normal, this is also the case when the foot is completly off the accerlator pedal.
I reckon the fault is with the vacuum advance unit on the distributor, I removed the pipe and sucked on the vacuum unit, I was continously drawing air.... Read more
The vacuum unit does let air through.
If I fitted a new vacuum unit will there be any problems fitting the lever as it looks fiddly.

Try this.
The service reminder indicator (SRI) informs the driver that it is time for the car to be serviced. The lamp remains lit for 120 seconds when the ignition is switched on.
Note! If the lamp flashes, it may be because one of the service parameters has not been programmed.
Proceed as follows to reset the service reminder indicator (SRI):
-Ignition position I
-Press and hold in the reset button for the trip odometer
-Ignition position II
-The service reminder indicator (SRI) starts flashing when the reset button for the trip odometer has been pressed for 10 seconds
-Release the reset button for the trip odometer within 5 seconds. The instrument gives an audible signal when resetting has succeeded.
Note! If the trip meter reset button is not released within 5 seconds the indicator is not reset. However the indicator will stop flashing....
