I'm trying to find out what car drivers think of bus drivers and coach drivers. Is there and difference in driving standards between bus drivers and coach drivers and is their driving generally good or bad? Would you be embarrassed to tell your mates you did bus or coach driving for a living? Read more

My air con whines when I switch it on. the note increases with revs so I assume its a mechanical issue, the aircon still works fine, but would like some advise before it goes tits up (pardon the Pun). does the pump need oil or some kind of lube ? if so can it be changed/topped up without dumping the gasses, forgive my naivity as I know nothing about Air con and how it works . can you Help Please. I should get it checked fairly urgently. My old Megane had the same problem which progressively got noisier until the compressor seized completely, stopping the car dead (very strong auxiliary belts nowadays!). It needed a new compressor, about £600, plus belts and labour. I had the cambelt done at the same time seeing as it was having to be stripped down anyway. There is no way of lubricating them separately as the lubricant is within the aircon liquefied gas, and the whole system does have to be drained and refilled to work on it.
I suspect that bacteria in the aircon system may be causing throat & chest infections. If I run the system on max heat with the aircon on through the face level vents for 15 minutes should this clear any bacteria. Read more
It may smell nice when done but unfortuneatly Dettol will not kill the bacteria in a AC unit.
A friend was involved in a road traffic accident a couple of weeks ago and the side of his s type was driven into by a ford ka at between 30-40mph on a mini roundabout, his speed was quite low. result, A pillar and B pillar destroyed + side of car, now a write off, ford ka pulverised miraculously driver unhurt too! As usual because both said no one hurt, boys in blue not interested. Amazing to think what would have been a lethal accident a good few years back has left both parties walking away. On top of this he has the ECU data to help in his claim. Read more
I doubt any of those will be recorded;much more sophisticated equipment is required to record all those things than a standard ECU.
refer you to a case last year "jaguar hit pedestrian at high speed in rain on dual carriageway" "data was recovered from the ecu by the police showing speed of .... at the time of impact" anyway there are it seems two independent witnesses as well. case is now ongoing so no further comment till resolved....
Hi there, I'm hoping someone may have an answer for me. First of all I will try and explain my situation as simply as possible. Basically, I purchased a new Mercedes sprinter van back in 2007. At the end of 2009 I had to get the Mercedes garage out to fit a new starter motor. Within a few months the vehicle was showing signs that the starter motor was malfunctioning again. I obviously contacted the garage again and they took my vehicle in but could not find any problems with it, although they themselves have experienced the car not starting on a couple of occasions. Anyway, they gave me the vehicle back but intermittently, the problem still happened. And then a week ago it completely packed up again. I contacted the garage and they told me that the warranty was out of date on the starter motor because it had been fitted within the three year warranty of the van. So I have had the second starter motor fitted at a cost of £500. What I'd like to know is if I have any consumer rights because I reported this fault before the warranty was up and the garage and able to find it, but it was obvious it was still there. Read more
I miss-read "So I have had the second starter motor fitted at a cost of £500." My mistake. Regards Peter
