Having had my 1997 Renault Megane 2.0 RXE from new, it's time for a change. The old lady is bowing out gracefully with a bit of rust on the rear wheel arches and increasingly niggling little problems. Not worth spending much on it now as it's still going to be a 14 year old car and all's downhill now with it. I've avoided the Mk2 Megane, mainly because of reported electrical problems which mine certainly hasn't been plagued with. The new shape Megane is reputed to be a big improvement, so as I want at least comparable spec and performance as the Mk1 RXE I'm contemplating the Megane 2.0 TCE. as a replacement. Any thoughts? I'm aware that it'll probably be a higher insurance group and that the road tax is £200 (less than the old one actually.) and that it won't be economy motoring. Read more

Hi Guys,
Ihave just come across this Forum, and it really scares me as i have been thinking of buying a Fabia to replace my Felica. As regards the water leaks that have been reported by members, i will add my findings on the subject. Having been a car sprayer for some 35 years, i can recall the time that i did a lot of work for a Skoda Dealer. When the first Fabia models came out it was;nt long before we noticed rust bubbles appearing along the weather strips at the top of the rear doors. Now i know why, did mention it to the Dealer, but as the cars had come in the workshop for accident damage, it fell on deaf ears. Seems to me if you are going to cure this problem by re-sealing the bottom of the doof seal, you are only trapping the water in the door panel and causing more moisture to corrode the panel. If you see lots of little bubbles along the top of the door, it;s too late. You;ve got metal maggot in your doors.

Sorry, I know this subject has been flogged to death, but I would appreciate any advice.

I parked in a local supermarket car park. I overstayed the 2 hour limit by 20 minutes. It was a Saturday lunchtime and the car park was half empty.... Read more

They can apply for any order they want andt a "Norwich Pharmacal Order" which - if granted - would provide a court order to compel the keeper to reveal who was driving.

A Norwich Pharmacal Order would normally require the applicant to show that revealing the information or forcing it to be revealed was in the *public interest* - ie to the benefit of society - not the private interest of the parking company.

Furthermore the substantial costs of a Norwich Pharmacal Order must be paid by the applicant (ie the parking company) and while they are recoverable if granted the application for costs is subject to a further hearing.

To get one would require a full hearing of the court and considerable expense with little chance of either success or recovery....

oxy sensor faults can be fpor a number of reasons including pattern parts ! but as already mentioned you need to post the fault code. An air leak can trigger a sensor fault like wise a lazy cat so please post the fault or fault codes before spending any more dosh.

There is a lot more to diagnostics than just reading a code and replacing a part.

I have retired and live overseas. I have kept a car in the UK for my annual visits back there, but due to its age and the cost of getting it through the MoT I have now had to sell it.

I have the maximum no-claims bonus/NCD for 15+ years without a claim. I have read in several places that this will stay valid for 2 years after I cancelled my car's insurance policy.... Read more

If you were resident in UK you'd need to aquire a cheap, low grouped car and somewhere to keep it - then SORN it so you don't need tax or MoT and insure it one year in three.

As you're not resident in the UK I don't see how you can do it - being a named driver won't keep your NCD intact.

Hi can anyone help, we have a problem with our daughters car. We recently did a rad clean as the water wasn't going round the system and the bottom of the rad was cold even when the fan kicked in. This solved that problem but now coolent is leaking from the lower heater ducts inside the car in quite large amounts. First time it did it was when we were bleeding the system and opened the fan inside the car, but then it did it again AFTER I moved the car and turned it off and the heater was closed! I suspect it is the heater matrix, but what I would like to know before we try to get to it is is there something else it could be? If not then does it mean replacing the whole matrix or can it be fixed? Read more

Sounds as though the heater matrix is leaking, quite a common probalem, it could be that the pipe seals have failed but in any event you need to gain access to the heater behind the dashboard.

Anyone recommend an online retailer for NGK spark plugs? My local factors don't do them at a good price. There are loads available online/ebay, but I don't want to end up with some cheap Chinese copies. Read more

Thanks for the replies. I ordered from Raceparts on ebay (feedback of 200,000) last Monday, arrived Thursday. Ordered four and they arrived in two packages, presumably to avoid tax as they are CI based.

the problem first appeared six months after i bought the car 2yrs ago, after running out of diesel. the car would randomly go into limp home mode and accelerate slowly and peek at 2200. i took the car to dealers and they refused to work on it as 4 copper wires were spliced into loom and joined into an extra earth. when i picked up the car the problem had gone?? this problem very occasionally reappeared but only when using cheap diesel and would gradually dissapear. About 2 weeks ago it came back and now seems more persistant but i did run for 5 hours on hols this weekend and only stuttered briefly as i arrived but then cleared for 2 days. but on the way home it was permanently there but for maybe 1-2 or 3-4 minut bursts, and going through the gears it was okay in some not others. it also idles occasionally at 1200 then slowly drops to normal and this morning it started grumpy but an hour later ran okay for a short run??Anyone with any ideas? I would start with cleaning the EGR/turbo if that does not cure it then a faulty MAF or crankshaft sensor are good places to look.
