Took delivery of my brand new Meriva 1.4 (140) last week and immediately found a growing oil patch on my drive. My drive is very steep and the car is parked uphill, the patch was under the drivers side of the engine. The AA man who came on day three could not work out where it was coming from and suggested taking it to the dealer if it persisted. However no further leakage has happened. Anyone any idea what this might be and also recommend how I get the stain off of my new key block drive. Read more

I've removed oil stains on block drives by applying a liberal dose of washing-up liquid and leaving it to soak in for a couple of days. On one occasion, overnight rain meant I didn't have to rinse it off.

I've removed paint by turning the blocks over.

If the glow plugs are not working but all else is OK you should have white smoke coming from the exhaust when you are turning it over.

I still think dealerships and companies with a well known name still use the psychology of the matter to sell overpriced goods. Someone will go into a main dealership and buy a used car, or a specialist dealer etc and pay well over the odds for that "piece of mind" yet they wouldnt buy the exact same car at that price from a typical used car dealer who sells them on his driveway.

Dealerships know this so they dont have to put any effort into their customer service, where as the independant, which still has a reputation for being "dodgy", has to work very hard for custom. Even though in my experience the big dealers are just as arrogant, clueless and willing to rip you off but they do enough business for the complaints to be in the minority....

i had a key snap in the ignition of my van and in the end we had to buy a new barrel and key from a vw dealer it fits in fine and it started the van for the last couple of times but then it stopped do you think that it could be the immobiliser on the van or does it sound like something else, can i also remove the immobiliser off my van , i am going to have another look at the van today and see if i can find anything else that maybe causing it not to start now.

i am not that technical minded so need things explaining simply thanks... Read more

Hi all,

My sister has just passed her driving test aged 34 & is due to give birth in a few weeks!! Her hubby has a work car, Volvo estate, and their old motor is a 2002 Golf 1.6 mark 4 which is showing it's age. I might advise her initially to run around in the Golf untill it packs in (it has a few niggles and on a 10 year old car from VW it won't necessarily be worth spending money & hassle trying to repair)... Would the warranty still apply to the second owner of the vehicle?

Yes Hyundai and KIA warrantys are fully transferable free of charge, of course the vehicle should have been (and be) serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's schedule.

Hi everyone

I recently bought a 03 combo van and have noticed the central locking opens the drivers side door but when I pull the handle to open the door it drops slightly and the centrall locking locks again I was wondering if the door drop is causing this or a problem with the locking Read more

Thanks happy polo and alfatrike regarding Transit.

My experience of Transits is that it is a decent drive although the turning circle on the long wheelbase was a bit too wide for my liking. The internal comfort and trim can be quite acceptable but the only bit that is a real put-off is the actual passenger access which is essential for a passenger carrying vehicle. When using a standard factory minibus with the sliding left door, it has a door stop which means it has such limited opening that leaves a very narrow entrance that proves to be a nuisance especially for some larger folk. Also, the ridiculous seat nearest the sliding door with its essential but obstructive guard rail is a definite negative. In other words, Transits may be very practical and roomy as vans, but they have missed out rather badly when using it as a bus. I suppose a coach-built option that the builders have redesigned thinking carefully of seat positioning and door access would make it quite desirable, but until I see such a creature I will remain unconvinced....

I only have one key for my Puma. What happens when the battery dies,,,? Will I get stiffed for having the immobilisor recoded + new keys..? The key itself does not appear to be a master (black). I think it is the RF key that does central locking & immobilisor. Read more
