Any - PSV Minibuses - Anyone with experiences to share? - richardbettabus

Does anyone have good or bad experiences they would like to share about any 02-06 reg 17-seater minibuses?

Never, ever consider buying an Optare Alero! Heavy on fuel, the worst turning circle of any vehicle I have ever driven, hopeless reliability, noisy, bouncy, uncomfortable, expensive spare parts, awkward to work on.

Ive had a rather splendid experience in the back of a minibus but i feel the details are unbroadcastable.

:)

ford transit will be cheap but fairly basic, merc sprinter is more plush but pricey.

what sort of work you going to be doing? schools, private hires or something else?

Thanks alfatrike.

It's for private hire use, airports, tours, parties etc.

Need to have space for people as well as luggage.

something like ebay Item number: 220776162880 looks a good choice.

the boot might be big enough but if you get a group of chinese with suitcases bigger than they are you WILL need a trailer.

the km's don't look too high, both of ours has done well over 400,000.

if i had the money i'd buy it for myself.

would benefit from having a diesel powered webasto or simlar type night heater as the standard heater in the front will take AGES to heat up the whole cabin.

good luck hunting.

The current generation transit is a nice drive - although admittedly I've only driven the panel version, not the minibus - and was a plesure on my run from Portsmouth-Hastings-Stoke-Portsmouth. Plenty of poke on the one I had, nice cabin and driving position, if a tad bouncy. Not sure of ride quality in the back seats of course.

i agree the transit is a nicer drive BUT you will struggle to find a premium spec interior.

Thanks happy polo and alfatrike regarding Transit.

My experience of Transits is that it is a decent drive although the turning circle on the long wheelbase was a bit too wide for my liking. The internal comfort and trim can be quite acceptable but the only bit that is a real put-off is the actual passenger access which is essential for a passenger carrying vehicle. When using a standard factory minibus with the sliding left door, it has a door stop which means it has such limited opening that leaves a very narrow entrance that proves to be a nuisance especially for some larger folk. Also, the ridiculous seat nearest the sliding door with its essential but obstructive guard rail is a definite negative. In other words, Transits may be very practical and roomy as vans, but they have missed out rather badly when using it as a bus. I suppose a coach-built option that the builders have redesigned thinking carefully of seat positioning and door access would make it quite desirable, but until I see such a creature I will remain unconvinced.

Thanks anyway for all your input.

I'd love to know if anyone has something to say regarding the 3 happy chums known as Fiat Ducato, Citroen Relay and Peugeot Boxer. They all appear to me to be the same, but I presume that their guts could differ as might the refinement regarding passenger comfort. Once again, a comparison of VANS might not be fair when talking about BUSES, so let's please try to stick to the subject of PASSENGER transport.
