Hi, I am trying to remove the gearbox on My 1990 Talbot campervan LHD. The vehicle has the auxillary driver pulley on the n/s (drivers) of the engine. There is a shaft that runs out of the engine and through the top of the bellhousing for the gearbox which is supported by a bearing bracket. I have removed all driveshafts, starter, bell housing bolts ect. The only thing holding the gearbox on is this shaft from the engine. I have removed the 3 bolts that support the bearing on the shaft but it still wound budge. I didint want to put a puller on it, to save the risk of cracking it as its only made of ally. I hope someone else has encountered this problem and will be able to advise me. I have 6 years experience as a Maindealer mechanic, 4 of them working on french c$%p, and as yet, never seen anything like this. PLEASE HELP!!! - p.s - I have a picture of the shaft I can e-mail if this will help. Read more

for a little while now i have noticed a slight rattle when pulling off, once moving it goes, i thought it was a heat shield some where but looking today its coming from the front of the engine around the top end, it only does it under the initial load of accelerating, any ideas what it could be, my first thought was valve clearance, its a 1.25 zetek with 84k on it, apart from oil changes it has never had any work done to it. now i have had another look i am sure it is pinking, i am selling the car in a couple of months so will just check the air filter and clean the maf sensor, if still no change i'll try some high octane petrol in it.

Recently recommissioned this rare old car for daily driver and "preervation". It was undersealed quite well from new (by the dealer or importer I guess) and has so far survived remarkably well.

Now that it is MOT'd and up and about, I need to rustproof it for future. What is the best wax stuff for spraying inside the sills chassis rails //cavities etc? I have a compressor (and large groundsheet as it is a messy job). Some warn me off Waxoyl as it may comtinue to dribble weeks later if warmed. In particular does anyone have feedback on Bodyline cavity wax - available from Brown Brothers (was from Unipart)? Read more

Using a compressor and the proper 'wands' is definitely the way to do it, because it atomises the product properly.

Have posted before but my old MGB was rustproofed by a local classic car specialist for £50 using a waxoyl / oil mix through a compressor. Thorough job but they only did it when they had no other cars in the workshop needing paint jobs, as the stuff gets EVERYWHERE

I may have been flashed the other day; it may have been me or the car behind me.

You get an NIP first asking for the driver's details and you get twenty eight days to reply to that before any further action.

I had a 52 caravelle 2.5 Tdi for many years and it was an excellent vehicle (especially compared to the Merc V-class we had). Good examples with low milage hold their value very well. I was offered £5k trade in last year but easily sold for 8K privately.Try looking at ex mobility sites for ones that have a low impact conversion. Watch out for the cost of cambelt and water pump which can easily cost over £400. Mark

I'm looking for a sports coupe or similiar which is suitable for motorway driving (i.e. reasonably comfortable and quiet) yet also packs enough punch to excite on country roads. I'd particuarly like to get something a little different,

I know people often recomend their own cars... but £14k of my money if you want a sporty drive? I could only recomend a Boxster, for which you could get the current shape, 05 or 06. Before you write it off due to practicality, look at one & check out the front & rear boots, you can get more in than you'd think. Untouchable drive at the price. ALternatively if you need rear seats, I'd be looking at:

Some details would be useful:

Such as how old is the car? When did you buy it? etc. For a start...

The wipers are parked a little way up from normal and will not respond to any switch command, apart from a faint initial 'kick'. Battery has just been replaced for new, and wipers have always worked previously. Any leads? I do not have my owner's manual with me to refer and do not even know where to begin, eg. where are the fuses? Read more

Suspect the wiper drive shafts seized bushes where they come through the scuttle panel.
