This afternoon i was driving down the dual carraigeway, in front of me was a Vauxhall Astra who forgets to look before they pull out, to the left of me is a driver in a Shogun on his phone, possibly talking to the guy behind him in a Mercedes C Class who was also on phone, quick glance in the rear view mirror sees a Corsa with a girl texting at the wheel, and all mixing in with foreign lorry drivers who still cant grasp we drive on the left.
Turn onto a different road and end up behind a Jaguar X Type estate with seven, count it seven bicycles attached to the vehicle, meaning behind him he can see f*** ALL!!!!!!!!!... Read more
i have a Saab 9-3 that has a problem with the SID. It is not working properly and Saab has informed me that it can only be replaced by a Saab specialist asyou cannot replace it with a unit sourced from a breakers yard. Ihave been quoted around £400 to replace so my question is............................. are Saab telling porkies or will i have to get Saab to repair SID??? Read more
Check www.saabscene.com - there's a section dedicated to problems with the SID, and numerous ways of fixing faulty SIDs. Quite a common problem.
I have owned a 57 plate golf (petrol) from the date of first registration. The VW dealership tells me that the cam belt should be changed after 4 years regardless of mileage, but the service book talks about checking the condition at 60,000 and 80,000 miles before replacement at 100,000 miles. What is the correct age/mileage for the belt to be changed ? Read more
The dealership are right I'm afraid. Age or mileage-whichever comes first. Rubber perishes with age regardless of the engine's mileage. That's why cars have variable service intervals.
Hi all,
I have my eye on a 2001 Accord with a 2l VTEC engine. Very nice car. For its age, its stunning.... only the engine on idle sounds like a diesel... a bit agricultural if you know what I mean...... Read more

Just finished reading about the failure of many 2nd hand purchasers to secure finance for cars in the £1000-6000 price range. conclusion of article says as long as the asset is worth more than the loan then it's worth making the loan, but most cars on sale at say £4000 stand the dealer in at about half that, and what a car is worth trade or at auction is often a lot less than the sum owed after deposit paid and interest charges added.
i am a home owner with a small mortgage and no other debts, good deposit available in relation to the car i wanted to buy, and was being quoted outrageous apr rates for a loan via dealers, I suppose they want their comission on that too.... Read more
Hi all,
Bit of advice please for someone about to buy his second ever used car....... Read more
Hmm, a mate ran a 2 litre Primera. Racked up spaceship milage on it and he's the sort that got it serviced when it asked but never touched anything himself, being utterly clueless at all things automotive. It never missed a beat, thriving on the neglect it was treated with.
Also I once had an extended conversation with a breakdown guy who'd been covering the lower stretch of the A1(M) for over a decade. Nissan were top of his list for reliability. His mob[1] had only ever been called to two in that time, a new 1.8 Primera with a crank position sensor failure and a Micra whose owner had filled with diesel at the previous service station. His opinion was that the things are, to all intents and purposes, bulletproof....
are they likely to look at another part of the car at my request for free? Nothing too indepth just a look to try and get an idea of what the problem is. The way I see it is if I am spending over a 100 quid there they shouldn't have a problem but I am an inexperienced driver and have no experiences of garages!
Also, what is the best way to ask?... Read more
A service always used to be a visual inspection as you go through each part of the service, and as long as they are honest about possible problems tell the customer and report on service sheet, its then up to the customer as to whether they want the job done
I would think most still work that way??

If i was to ever have kids (please god dont punish me that badly, i beg of you) i'd duck tape their mouths and shove them in the boot.
Much safer for all involved. I wonder how many dings are caused by parent turning round shouting at child and not concentrating?
