Rav4 NRG 20 Auto - Decision Time - killie77

Hi

Have the Rav4 2.0 Auto NRG

Have been trying to sell privately But not had any luck .

Thought I might try and P/X against a smaller vehicle. The Rav's Tax is due end of May

£260 Plus with the cost of Petrol etc. Anyway found myself looking at an 05 Plate Corsa

24000 Miles one owner from new. Cars in good condition inside and out. Had it oput for a test drive. Thats when the Problem arose or maybe not ?. It has the easytronic semi auto gearbox. Found at junctions and going up hill the car was a bit jerky. On level ground no problem. Did some browsing and came accross lots of people with problems with the gearbox. So although i quite fancy the little corsa. It's a 1.2 twinport. I can't get round the idea I might end up with a problem with the Gearbox. I know I could get a warranty but am not totally convinced they would cover all the Parts of the Box due to the age of the Vehicle

Wear & Tear springs to mind. So any advice form anyone who has one of the easymatic boxes woukd be great

Thanks

Ian

Hi

Went down to have another look at the Corsa. Wife took it for a test drive.

She didn't have a problem with the semi auto gearbox, but thought the car was a bit on the small side after the Rav4.

So we declined that one. and have now looked at a 07 Plate Toyota Auris 1.4 5 Door manual. This car she liked test drove and was quite happy. I drove it and thought it a little bit underpowered but i imagine it would be fine on a long run. Was a bit surprised to find the VED was £165 per year a lot for a 1.4 ?

if anyone who has an Auris 1.4 can give me their views would be most gratefull

Personally im not a fan of the Corsa, i think it looks nice on the outside but i found the seats rock solid, suspension poor and general build quality the wrong side of average.

May i be so bold as to ask what sort of car you're looking for? Do you specifically want a small car? Or is it something with good economy and low VED that you're looking for? Etc

Hi Jamie

Thanks for the reply. It's a smaller car were looking for with hopefully lower VED

The wife has gone off the Corsa. But seems taken with the Auris. Problem their is the

1.4 engine. She drove it and thought it had enough power but I think it will struggle a bit

As I mentioned earlier the VED seems a lot for a 1.4 but not much I can do unless I can convince her to look at some thing else.

The Auris is a nice little car, bigger inside than it looks on the outside. The 1.4 probably is quite low powered if you intend to use it on motorways alot, can work the engine quite hard. The 1.6 is probably a better bet but that is £190 a year on the VED.

Its high for a 1.4 i suppose but its done on co2 and although engine size and economy usually corrolates emissions quite well its not always the case.

My personal pick of the Auris range would be the 2.0 Diesel. Falls into VED band F (£130), great economy and enough power to keep up with traffic without feeling strained.

I dont know how much you have to spend but i'd be thinking something like this

Should it be called a Toyota Tardis.

Had a look at the one on autotrader nice car

but unforyunately have to PX the Rav. One were looking at is one owner with 26000 miles

FSH buying it from Arnold Clarks in Glasgow. Would normally avoid AC but they have a monopoly up here. Worked out the best deal I could so if all goes well should pick it up end of the week,

Don't do a lot of miles. so should be OK for a couple of years. Fingers X
