Hi, I have a 1600cc petrol renalt scenic, on an 07 plate, when the car moves from 1st to 2nd it seems to hesitate and then clunks into 2nd, all the other gears seems to be fine, also as of late when I put the car in reverse it also clunks.
The car has only done 22,000 miles I would of thought it would last longer than this, can you help me? Read more
My Astra MK1 1.7 TDI ticks over ok but when I press the accelerator it cuts out. My local mechanic has discovered that air is getting into the fuel line upon accelerating but is currently unable to establish why.

took car to garage to have cam belt changed garge said need to have fanbelt changed as well got car back on invoice says cam belt changed and tension roller pully not sure what this is any help please Read more
It's normal to replace the cam-belt tensioner (tension roller pulley) at the same time as the cam-belt.
If you fitted a new cam-belt, but reused the tensioner and the tensioner subsequently failed, it could wreck the engine....
please could someone help

The tensioners on these cars do fail if neglected, so your garage has done the right thing in replacing that as well.

Hi,
I bought W-reg A170 for £1850 from a small and apparently very scummy dealer in London. Next day - the gearbox packed up. I have an impressive quote from Mr Clutch in Bristol, writing a demanding letter to the seller, and complained to trading standards. He doesn't reply, and trading standards look completely useless at this stage. It looks like I am going to court to get my money back. My insurance is due to run out on the 12th March so I need some sensible action plan in place asap.... Read more
It's a refund case. Within a day with a major fault you just reject the car. The problem then is if he refuses you are on the litigation route and that could take six months. Then we have to collect.

Vehicles are a major contributor to the the world from a positive perspective? Most times when thinking about the contributions of a vehicle to the world the first thing which comes to mind is pollution, waste, or traffic. Well recently more and more attention has grown around the contributions
vehicles are making once they are no longer needed. Vehicles are being recycled for their parts which are then used on other vehicles. The metal itself is used by companies around the world as steel is recycled.... Read more
If the car is decent it's a part ex trade in. If I not then it's most likely a scrapper due to being a non runner or beyond economical repair. Currently the scrap man is paying upwards of £100 I believe.
There's no way in heck I'm throwing away a road legal fully working vehicle. Thats not particularly green behaviour is it. If I choose to make a donation to a charity it's one of my choosing and in a form of currency....
following my first question - does anyone know how much it would cost to replace a head gasket? My mechanic said it was about £ 400 is that right?? Read more
My 1992 ford escort cabriolet which has done 75,000 miles and served me well has just blown a head gasket and I,m told by my mechanic that the cams need replacing also as they are wearing. The cost for this wil be around the £600 for both jobs. I also have a battery problem which is draning due to an electrical fault -although I can cope with this even if I had to replace the battery every year but not sure if the car is worth spending £600 seeing as I recently spent approx £500 having new starter motor and alternator. can I have some advice please Read more
£500 having new starter motor and alternator !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remanufactured versions of these units can be sourced for approx £50 each....

I've made an error. I've just been advised that it's a MK4. Also my mechanic says when he pumps desiel directly into the injectors that it runs ok at higher revs.
