March 2011
I am the 2nd owner of a 2008 VW Polo , 1.2 engine, 69 HP. Whenever I start it up it has a very small vibration at idle(aprox 800 RPM), but if I use electrical stuff, especially turning on the AC or steering the wheel, the vibration becomes much more powerful. These vibration seem to go away if I accelerate over 1500 RPM.

Thread last year on this location which is now covered by CCTV enforcement and good source of income for Hounslow since many commuters are dropped off. Having been issued with FPN on 22/2/11, got notice on 2/3/11 and went back to check it out since I mistakenly thought stopping offences were red route and box junctions.
Found the statutory yellow sign had been turned away from the road to face the opposite direction and invisible to traffic on my carriageway, it was not parallel with and facing the roadway. You would have to stop and get out of the car to see if there was any restriction at that stop. When I then checked the online council CCTV images, it was in the same position and obviously had been like that between 22/2 and 2/3 and the CCTV operatives hadn't bothered verifying from the comfort of their console.... Briefly, I'm after any advice on where to head for and any special hotel recommendations outside the main resorts, starting from Alicante - do we head south or north?
I know Spain in March isn't ideal, but as long as we don't get any snow I'll be happy, and it's only a week.

I suffered a blow-out on a motorway heading back home to Chester from Scotland. It was near Glasgow and I was without a spare so called the RAC who took me to a 24-hr tyre place. They put a new tyre on and I then drove home with my girlfriend the 230-odd miles back home. Used the car to drive a few miles the following day, then on the second day I made a point of looking at all my tryes and found an obvious bulge at least 50p-size in the outer tyre wall of the new tyre. It gives under pressure. I had this checked at a local garage who confirmed that the tyre could fail at any time and should be replaced. I phoned the garage who fitted the tyre - they told me I have to bring the tyre back so they can check whether it is manufacturing fault or pothole damage. However I am pretty sure I did not hit any obvious potholes sufficient to cause such damage to a new tyre.
What I want to know is: is it at all likely that this damage could have been done since I bought the tyre after driving around 250miles at no more than 75mph without hitting any obvious bumps or potholes in the road (or any kerbs) at any significant speed? I feel that this is a manufacturing fault. Secondly, how can I be sure that, when I return the tyre, that they will not just tell me it is OK and therefore refuse replacement/refund - do I need written statement from another garage that it is faulty before sending the tyre? The other problem is I cannot personally return the tyre without replacing it at a local garage as it is not safe to drive with at all, let alone all the way to Glasgow. I could send the tyre but either way this costs me even more money without any faith that I will be treated fairly by the garage in question, or the manufacturer.... Read more

Three months ago we purchased a Valtswagon Polo Match from a local garage and it came with a new MOT certificate. It is a second car for me to use for shopping, the school run etc.
The breaks seem to take a long time to react and occasionally the ABS warning light comes on. Can anyone advise please as there was no indications on the MOT certificate and we have not done many miles in this car to warrant any wear on the breaks. Read more
This is a safety issue I urge you to take it to a garage and get it checked out. Regards Peter

Has any one fitted a tow bar to a Lexus 400h. I always understood that because of the drive motors and battery it was not possible to do this but my Lexus dealer tells me that it is possible to do. Has any one fitted one and what did it cost, what is the 400h like to tow with as I have a 16 foot caravan. I usually pay about £400 to fit tow bars to my cars. Read more
Hi, I am the person who wanted to know about fitting a tow bar to a lexus 400h. I have managed to buy one with a tow bar already fitted. I had quotes of up to £1,000 to fit one as it is a very specalist job because of the very different electrics on the hybred but it can be done. Don't let some one who has no experence of fitting tow bars to these cars touch it. A word of caution, I had a swan neck tow bar on my Merc 270 ML and it is not possible to adjust the height of the bar on swan neck tow bars so trailers may not sit level. My Lexus has a fixed bar with removal ball and I have had to fit a plate behind the ball to raise the towing height as the jockey wheel of my caravan grounded on uneven sites. the car is a great tow car however and with careful use I can get 25 MPG when towing.
I currently have a Citroen C5 2.0 VTR 2004 that although very reliable is a normal thirsty 2 litre petrol avergaing 30 MPG. Yes a reliable C5 with only usual brake pads tyres. Okay has a brake calipler and power steering pipe but these things happen.

I must admit the C5 only done 68K.

They normally come under the local safety partnership - however they are not normally running all the time and only "trip" if a light is run.
If you send me your details and those of the location to asklucy@honestjohn.co.uk I can see if we can help further.

In town, it is probably safest to let passengers off without parking, eg at the lights. They have spies everywhere.
