I would not have thought that the car has drum hand brake ystem,It should Have one set of disc pads for which you will need a rewind tool to put the pistons back into the caliper.

Dan, If the car was a late 2005> then I would suggest the 'Onboard supply control unit' J519 has failed. However prior to that there was no sych unit on the A4. Regards Peter

Anyone got a Honda 50 / 90 sort of bike for sale. Other makes considered, but must be in good nick - current use a good indicator. Must be a standard road bike. Up to £500 for something half decent. I've tried Ebay but most of the stuff is junk or overpriced. Read more

Hi, I couldn't find anything worth looking at for a measly £500 so I bought an electric fold up shopper bike. With a pair of panniers it's great for local shopping and short trips - which is most of what I had in mind for a moped. And I can throw it in the boot if I fancy a bit of assisted cycling further afield. I should have gone for this option in the first place.

Thank anyhow, Ernie.

I got a check light a couple of weeks ago and it reported a cylinder 2 misfire. I changed the HT leads which solved the problem for about 10 miles. I then replaced the coil pack which significantly improved the drive quality. The light has since come back on. The car drives better than it ever has, there is no loss of power and it idles comfortably. The garage do not know what the problem is. They said that they don't think there is a problem just a faulty sensor. This can't be the case because the sensor reacts at the same point every time it is reset. There is nothing random about the check light coming on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Read more

I brought my car 3 months ago. Last week it went for it's MOT and it failed. I have been told that someone has removed the instrument cluster and messed around behind it to hide the fact that the ABS doesn't work. Renault have ordered me a new cluster and are going to fit it this week but that may not solve the original ABS problem but will show what the problem is. I brought my car from a private garage and the cost of the works to be done is £52 less than the price I paid for the car - do I have any right to go to the garage and ask for some money? Any advice would be greatly appriciated. Thanks Read more

The selling dealer does have some potential liability but that diminishes with the age of the car. The other consideration is whether the repair is "proportionate" - it is arguable wehther spending the full worth of the car to replace the dashboard when that wil not fix the fault is proportionate.

don't think we have established why the car failed the MOT. A list of reasons would be useful....

Hi,
Central locking has given up completely. I had problems a year ago and had the door loom replaced - which fixed the problem. A few months ago it started its locking and popping back up again.
Took the car back to the garage because I thought the sudden cold might have caused a crack/bad connection in the solder or something.
They, after investigation, said it wasn't their workmanship. (Fair enough - electrical faults, who needs them?)
The car now won't lock at all - not even with just the key - all doors just unlock themselves.
Question: Can I disable the whole central locking system so that I can use just the key to lock doors individually? Remove a fuse or something?
Car not worth spending money on.
Advice would be much appreciated.

Ok, like the title says, I have a '93 Golf III with the 1.8L 90HP "ABS" engine, Single Point Injection. I purchased for next to nothing, so I expected it to have problems.

Anyway, when cold, the car is difficult to start, and does not like to stay running. Once running, it is running so rich that it's pouring smoke out of the tailpipe. Obviously it's missing terribly as well, from the spark plugs being covered in soot from running so rich.... Read more
