Hi
I am having to have the dashboard replaced as the current one seems to have totally failed, when I turn the key a couple of lights come on and go out and nothing else works.
Ford have told me that there is no way of reprogramming the new dash to show the actual mileage
I have no idea what the mileage is as it's a digital display that's no longer working so I cant even record it for future use.
Can this be right in this day and age when computers are practically running cars, surely things like this are stored somewhere.
Also will I have to notify anyone about the fact that the mileage has gone back to zero.
Thanks
Ps Does anyone know if this may be one of the 'watchdog' ones that I've read about on the Internet

My son has recently renewed his road tax online, it has yet to arrive through the post, but, he continues to drive with a note attached to his old disc to the effect that his tax is in the post, i have told him that our brave boys in blue will pull him for "failure to display" irrespective of whether he has paid online or not, am I correct in my assumption, or will they consult their system and accept that he has indeed paid? You get a confirmation email immediately after renewing online so it wouldn't hurt to keep a printed copy in the car. Not proof I know, but it might help a bit if pulled over.
A quick note for discussion, the Spanish government have announced that from March 7th the national speed limit on motorways will be reduced from 120 kph to 110 kph, this action is to reduce fuel consumption due to the current problems in Libya (where Spain gets most of its fuel).
What concerns me more is that they also intend increasing the percentage of biofuel added to the standard diesel, I wonder what effect that will have on modern engines? Read more

None! It's not like they're adding untreated cooking oil to the diesel.
I've just renewed my insurance with a well known on line company. Much to my surprise there is a clause denying insurance to me if I am convicted for driving under drink or drugs. Third party insurance remains.
Anyone else come across such a draconian and aggressive stance? Read more
Hmmm I wonder if I should be worried here, would this include my anti-inflamatories for my arthrits and the apple juice I drink because I can no longer drink alcohol ??
This isn't an aggressive stance its just plain commonsense !

"If your wife wasn't a named driver on your car but driving with your permission, she would be able to claim on her insurance as (as you say) this gives her 3rd party cover in another vehicle."
This is not the case when a H and W live in the same property, in this situation DOV does not work, common insurance T & C's. The claim is against your policy not hers although she will have to report the accident to her provider as it is a materal fact....

Can someone tell me the width of the Cee'd with both rear view mirrors extended and the width with them folded. Please. Thank you. Read more
There'll be a technical specification on the Kia website, but I'd expect iot to quote only overall width. If you need more detail, you may need to go to a Kia dealer with a tape-measure!

Problem focus dashboards are usually built 2002/3 ,so i would think your car falls within this range.Ford dealers were offering a replacement unit fitted for £99 but not sure if this still applies. The old faulty dash is very probably repairable, often a corroded printed circuit track. The odometer mileage is not stored any where else on this year of car.As for verifying the mileage it is only possible through service records or mot certificates.hth
