I was involved in a rear end shunt, the girl that was involved said that there was no damage to her car at the side of the road and didnt even leave me her name or number. I was going no more than 20mph, she slammed on her breaks on a slip road to a dual carrigeway. She took my mobile number but said there was no damage to her car. I went to check my car out and by the time i turned back round she had driven off!
She has now called 26hours after listing minor imperfections which could have no relation to a rear end shunt(apart from a scratch on the bumper). Is there legal implcations for me if i want to see her car and want to avoid going through insurance. I am fully insured and have a full drivers licence.
I realise that if you go into the back of someone the insurance company pretty much says no contest, but i am not the lead driver on the policy and the lead driver is looking at loosing all their no claims.
I need good advice here. I'm not trying to get out of anything, but she is claiming that i cracked her front windscreen, and knocked the front tracking out, and one scratch to the back bumper. Everyone i know says that she is trying to take me for a ride.... Read more
been trying to get a response from ford uk about a power steering pump that broke after it was replaced only a year ago and only done 4500 miles in that year. the dealership manager said it was odd to have done so and he tried to contact ford uk himself because the part was only 9 days out of warranty by the time the dealership said what was wrong. he got no response from ford uk and suggested i contact them instead. got the brush off from them- they going on a bout the car being 50 month out of warranty, which is hardly related to the part being one year old. the would not commit and i have written to them three times- they have sent same letter to me twice and now have gone quite. decided to write to the customer services at the dealership after trading standards suggested i do so. that was 3 and half weeks ago and nothing has been replied to me. i have looked at various sites and picked up that ford have modified the pipe to the power steering pump to save recalls and there is a design fault. can anyone confirm this and can you suggest what we do next please Read more
I agree with Lucy re dealer's offer. As the part is out of manufacturer's warranty, any contribution made is purely on a goodwill basis.
It should be noted that your contribution of say 50% will give you a further 12 month warranty on the new pas pump....
We have an 04 Passat 100bhp Tdi auto that we're mulling over either keeping and running for another 3 or 4 years and 60k miles or selling and replacing with a smaller petrol auto, Focus or Astra. The car has done 60,000 miles, we've owned it from 9 months and 10,000 miles so we know it has had all the right oil, 10k servicing and oil and filter every 6 months or 5k by main dealers or from 07 by a very competent VAG independent. It's been nearly all motorway miles for the 50,000 we've put on it, using Shell or BP diesel with occasional shots of Millers. We haven't had any problems so far other than the stupid comfort module problem from blocked plenum chambers.
I suppose my main concerns are the auto box remaining problem free to 120,000 miles and also the injectors having read the many horror stories on here. Will the injectors be Bosch? I note from other threads that it would be wise to remove and grease the suspension ball pinch joints and track rod end joints which we'd do if we decide to keep. Is there anything else that we should consider doing to help prevent likely costly repairs over the next 3 to 4 years? Many thanks.... Read more

Hi there,
I'm about to purchase a Ford Galaxy for between 9 and 11 K, 3-4 year old model with average mileage. I want a diesel but not sure which of the four diesel engines to go for. Is it worth getting the extra power in the 2.0 diesels? Does anyone know what the performance and mileage stats are for the four different engines?... Read more
NO
The 1.9 is a better engine re longevity. The 2.0 diesel has added a balancer shaft driven by the oil pump chain - the additional load causes it to fail along with the oil pump thus causing engine failure.
Its always nice to share a positve experience
At some point my 17 year old pride and joy (Jag XJS Celebration) collected a horrid bit of paintwork damage on front left wing, I won't even described as a chip, it was worse than that. I suspect that someone working on the car dropped a spanner on it, but since it was spotted 1 week after the said work a year or so ago, I can't prove it. It was two pieces of damage each about the size of a penny (bit smaller), where the paint was off down to the primer. It looked horrid, and was getting worse as it aged.
Richard Carter, local Franchise of Chips Away was next door giving neighbour a quote so I asked him to have a look. He was reluctant to tackle it, concerned a) as to the difficulty of good colour match and b) as to the effectiveness of repair possible. In the end I had to pursuade him to give it a go, on the basis that even the worst case scenario he was describing was going to be an improvement over what was an ugly bit of damage
He not once put any pressure on me to commit to the business, in fact I had to pursuade him.
He did the work and all I can say is I can't even see where the damage was now, it is perfect, excellent! the cost? £90 inc VAT. I am a very happy man.
I know it is a franchise, but in case of Richard, I can whole heartedly recommend him to anyone in the herts area, mind you he's based in Essex so probably covers a pretty wide region.
Neighbour is also very happy with the work done there, in fact I learned neighbour has used him before.... Read more
We asked Dent Devils to fix a couple of parking dings inflicted on the Jazz drivers door, right on the swage line. Very conspicuous. One appeared a few days ago so the door was starting to invite further attention. One dent nearly removed, but an internal plate in the door prevented access from behind. The other, now not noticeable unless you know. Gavin said no charge! He wasn't satisfied with the result. Now that's something you don't always expect. BTW, they make it clear they do not do paint work. Just damage to the metal.

I read HJ's article on this siteabout the proposed increase in the motorway speed limit and Brake (the anti motoring charity) saying it will lead to more deaths etc etc.
When i am on the motorwayhere in West wales(M4) doing a true 70mph i am still being overtaken by lots of cars, many of whom are doing approaching 90mph and the odd lunatic having fun at the ton! And some of those are white van men, but get to Cardiff east to newport east and the limit is 50 with lots and lots of average speed cameras so all of a sudden everyone is doing 50. Surely the powers that be can invest in a few more (400) cameras for the rest of the M4, 200 each way and then set the cameras to nick anyone over 80, european levels of fines (makes your eyes water!) see how that does for speed control.... I for one am an advocate of raising the speed limit on motorways. The current 70 limit was put in place decades ago. Car technology, brake system improvements (ABS, Discs all round etc) and tyre developments mean that in theory at least you would stop faster and safer from 80mph today than you would have from 70 30 years ago. I find that on any motorway the general flow of traffic is around 80 anyway. Would this increase to 90 with a higher limit? Theres one way to find out!
And why not do what some other countries do and have a lower limit for bad weather? With the increase of signage that can be changed would it be so difficult to have different limits depending on conditions?...

Hi all,
I'm new on here and asking for some help and guidance.
I have a 99 Focus 1.8 TD DI and I thought I had a leak from the advance/retard solenoid at the bottom of the fuel pump ( Bosch VP30 - 047 0004 007 ).
Last night we took out the alternator to get a better look and there does not seam to be any obvious leaks. The left hand side where it bolts into where the pulley sits look damp but apart from that looked ok. So bolted everything back together and made sure all was tight including the fuel lines to the injectors. Also resealed the thermostat housing as that was leaking fluid.
Ran the car and there was no obvious leeks. Got underneath and there seemed to be a small amount of diesel dripping from the alternator bracket which to me suggested the back of the fuel pump where we couldn't see anything.
If anyone has any ideas I'd love some suggestions to my problem.l
## TODAY
Fuel still leaking though but only seems to be when you drive it. Does not seem to leak if you are stationary and running the engine but if you drive it and then park up it will have a wet patch on the floor.
Help needed asap to pass MOT!! Read more
I have an 1.8 TDi Focus with seemingly the same problem. The guys at the garage picked up on it whilst MOT testing and have used Tiger Seal to prevent the leak and gave the car a pass. But they say this probably won't last and either the pump/pumpswitch will need replacing.

This driver is being thoroughly dishonest and is abusing the situation. You need to deal with her in an assertive and stern manner, sooner rather than later.
Tell her that you do not accept that the damage present on her vehicle was caused by the accident, and that you suspect her vehicle was unroadworthy at the time of the incident occuring. Tell her that you suspect that she is attempting to commit fraud, and that you are considering contacting the Police to report the matter, you will also report that she failed to provide you with her details and that she left the scene of the accident before you were able to inspect her vehicle, which you believe was a deliberate attempt to conceal the clearly unroadworthy condition of her car. Ask her to provide a full, signed list of any and all damage which she considers that you were responsible for, along with photographs of the vehicle, so that you can also provide this to the Police and to your insurers. If she wishes to proceed, point out that you will deal with it only through YOUR insurer but will also report it to the Police....
