FYI forum members

TomTom has launched a free version of its HD Traffic service on the web allowing you to check for delays in your area before leaving the house/place of work.

Have to disagree with you a bit, sorry.

I bought their European speed camera update - the only european country I recognised was Germany - I really don't care about Latvia or the little "stans"

Also not too happy that despite your satnav being linked to your lap top whilst getting normal updates (meaning they know the exact model) they then suggest other maps which you can buy BUT not actually fit on the device you have

bought an xxl model less than a year ago, some of the routes already out of date and they are asking about £70 to update them. not exactly chuffed to say the least. i may as well buy a new garmin.

In Germany most radio stations tell you were the mobil speed cameras are and were the traffic problems are TT is extremely overpriced far better units available at a fraction of the price.

Ok....three responses not entirely related to my original post.

I''ve never purchased any TomTom units or software personally.

I'm just highlighting a useful and totally free web service which may help people planning car journeys. It's a much slicker experinece than the traffic overlay on Google Maps.

Yep, it is useful - and quite accurate in my experience. Google only covers main routes, the TomTom one covers pretty much everywhere.

Thanks - TomTom (TeleAtlas) maps seem more up-to-date in my area than Garmin (NavTeq)

I have had my Tom Tom now for about 4 years .The map updating is expensive i haven't bothered.I be taking the sat nav again with me to France and a decent map should get me where i want to be.

I have a 930T and drive into europe numerous times every year. I wouldn't be without it. The RDS TMC is usually great especially in Europe, it has saved me loads of time. I once avoided a 1hr 42 traffic jam in Switzerland - very smug smile driving through some very pretty hills overlooking a very jammed A2!

i find my tomtom ONE which is about six years old is much better for finding places and road names then my wifes new tomtom ONE with european maps, which for almost everywhere it sems comes up "Unnamed Road" is this a result of trying to fit all the roads in europe on it?
