I suspect the stator sensor in the Dizzy. I do not recall if tit has a hall effect or an induction coil. From the CCT diagram it appears to an inductive device so should show a resistance rather then an open circuit. Regards Peter

Hi all, I need a bog standard car radio that has a permanent clock display. Done an internet search and plenty of radios have clocks but they don't show them in the pictures and I'm not sure if the time is always shown on the display - I don't want to press a button to show the time.

Anyone got any recommendations... Read more

Does it need to be a radio? If you need a permanent clock display you could buy a stick on clock (digital or analogue) for a tenner or less.

Mr Fox

I notice that Autoquake has gone into administration.

I've bought two cars from there for Friends / Relatives recently, and both at least £ 1000 less than you could find a similar one advertised elsewhere.... Read more

Maybe they were cheap for a good reason.

Got second-hand of a friend - 2 days later driver's window is refusing to come back up after I pressed it all the way down. There's still a whirring motor sound when you press the button, but no show of the glass.

Have read previous advice about removing fuses for newer scenics, causing the window to go up - but I've no idea which is the right fuse on this model. There's four 25amp white fuses labelled as 'windows'. Any idea which is the right one, or whether this is the right solution for a 2001 scenic where the motor's still whirring?... Read more

Just took my track rod end off the drivers side and had to split the lock nut on the tie rod due to it being seized. I thought it would be an m12 nut but this is damaging the threads. Are these lock nuts special size or imperial? Thanks Read more

First post, be gentle, I couldn't find a similar question through searching the forum.

I've seen a car I like at a good price at a small independant dealership.... Read more

I always look at it this way - if you buy a car and the engine goes bang who's most likely to fix it, the small dealer or the main dealer? the small dealer might be willing but won't be able to afford it whilst the main dealer has deep pockets and a reputation to consider....

Hi,
My engine light (Amber) has been on for approx 18months now and I haven't really experienced or noticed any problems with the car. There was heavy rain when it first switched on 18 months ago, I then had an MOT & Service this time last year and the guy said it passed with flying colours and turned the light off. But when I continued to drive around 2 miles down the road, the light triggered and turned back on again. I am just worried this is a more serious problem and was wondering if anyone else had experiences this or similar?

A red air bag light also flashes on my dash and didn't know if anyone knew EXACTLY what this means as I have no clue!!

Thanks, Rachel x Read more

I had a particularly frustrating drive down a section of the M4 in heavy spray this morning. Lane 1 was almost empty, as usual there were a few members of the Centre Lane Owners' Group (CLOGs) in lane 2, and the consequence was that lane 3 was nose to tail with drivers staying out there for mile after mile, many driving much closer than seemed wise.

I like to make good progress but always leave a decent though not excessive gap, especially in spray. I find that if I'm in lane 3 in these conditions, some idiot soon comes charging up the inside and cuts across to lane 3 in front of me, just to 'win a few places'. ... Read more

Maybe it would be useful if the matrix signs occasionally said "DON'T CLOG".

The unfortunate CLOGs would spend a lot of time worrying about what it meant and finally end up driving into the back of a Norbert or an Eddy ....

I changed my wishbone and track rod end today. After refitting I grabbed the wheel at 3 and 9 oclock and there was quite a bit of play with a slight banging noise but no play when i shook it at 6 and 12 oclock. I did not try this before i changed the wishbone and track rod end so dont know if it was like this before. Sometimes when I drive I get a bang from the same side and a droning noise coming from somewhere. anyone any ideas? the car is a 1997 fiat bravo 1.6. Thanks Read more

A wheel bearing would move equally at 12 to 6 and 3 to 9. Regards Peter
