Hi bought a 2002 A6 Avant 2.5TDI. Runs really well, starts from cold fine but is very difficult to start when warm specially when say the car has been run then left for an hour or so. Bought the diagnostic software and lead but no fault codes are listed.

Has anyone had the same experience or could advise on what the problem could be? Read more

I have the same fault on the same car and was wondering if the fault was now fixed ans what cured it?

scfc_151

took my car in for a diagnostic and had a new battery, MAF sensor and fuel pressure regulator.

The car feels better than ever to drive, nice and smooth and feel like some of the power is back.

However, i usually got around 600-650 from a tank so I averaged 45mpg.

Now ive noticed when I brim the tank im getting around 500miles.

Ive checked that there are no fuel leaks, brakes binding etc and the car recently had a full service so what could the problem be?

Ive also noticed a high pitch whistling when driving at around 30-40mph.
This only happens when the revs are constant and goes when I accelerate or decelerate.

I dont know if this is related to the leaking intake manifold that I repaired in my last post

thanks

Hi Guys, hope someone can offer some advice. I have just purchased a used 2002 Mondeo diesel auto box. the car drives fab with no strange smells or plumes of smoke. Problem is i have just filled up diesel to the brim (£78 eeek). The "range" shows 221 miles til next refuel. Unless I secretly have a Range Rover under the bonnet I can only assume and hope this is a fault. Has anyone ever heard of this as a fault or is this figure potentially accurate ? hope you can help.thanks Read more

I wouldn't worry about it. I think these work on the basis of using most recent "actual" consumption over a reasonably short period as a reference. So if its been used for lots of stop/start journeys from cold - typical if its recently been up for sale and test driven then the reference mpg might well be very low. It will settle down as you do real journeys.

Does anyone know if the GEM has any control over ignition/starting?

I have a non start frequently moreso after returning to the car after short periods but never after long periods say overnight. Everything works fine electrically Read more

Hi, Ins Co. have written my car off (which i am accepting), but they have, as expected, made an offer that i'm not happy with. Having told them this, they said they now need the documents (v5, ins. mot and copy of my license) in order to 'maybe' come up with an improved offer. I'm not sure if this is them trying to pull a fast one, and that once they have the docs, they then tell me that i have accepted the 1st offer. Can anyone help please??? Read more

Well that's a month now and finally (after phoning the ins. company) they've come up with an improved offer. Only problem now is that they were'nt aware i'd sent the original cheque back and all they sent me was a poxy cheque to add to the original. Now have to wait on other one in the post, but thankfully thats the whole horrible mess finally over with and i can get on with the hunt for a new set of wheels. Thank you guys for your help, cos i'd probably still be doubting whether or not to send those forms away if it were'nt for your words of wisdom. Thanks again.

Recently noticed a starting problem.

When the car is started from cold - for example first thing in the morning, or in the evening after work, it starts first time. No problems. But if I start it again 15 mins, or half an hour after a journey, it 'chokes' - and only starts at the 3rd or 4th attempt. The choking sound is difficult to describe, but it sounds a bit like a single prolonged cough - which then dies. Only seems to happen when the engine is still warm. When cold, it starts just fine. Any ideas what could be causing this ? Thanks in advance. Read more

Petrol or diesel?

Sorry about that omission - its a petrol engine (1.4L, unleaded '95) and the car is from June 1997 (phase II) with a fuel injector.
