I'm in the process of getting myself a new company car. No car to trade-in, and the new one will be a contract hire via the manufacturer's own business finance house, so a nice bit of commission for the dealer, plus ongoing locked-in service revenue.... Read more

I'm looking for a cheap little diesel van (car derived, not transit size !), my budget is no more than £1000, so it's the bottom end of the market I'm in. Because of that, I'm trying to find out which types are the most reliable / have cheap parts etc. I'm pretty good on the mechanics front, but obviously would prefer not to be repairing it all the time.
I've had a look through this site and it doesn't seem to cater for vans :-(... Read more

In the village near to where I live the edge of some road sections have been painted with white lines and the words "Keep Clear" included. Although I have seen this before I wondered how this is different to double yellow lines which mean the same thing to me. I haven't a Highway Code so I don't understand the difference. Any offers please? Read more
You can use double yellows over a long distance, miles if you want, but "Keep Clear" markings can only be used for a short length of road. Also, double yellows are purely to control parking, they don't keep a junction etc clear. They are totally different animals.
The engine fan is operating after a very short time in slow moving traffic. Could it be the sender unit that is at fault?... Read more
And what does your temp gauge say. Did the repair garage give you a one year warrantee. ? Regards Peter
I need a good auto electrician in the Bsingstoke area to find sortout a couple of faults. Anyone know of one? Read more
Is it true that a new law is about to be enacted that will allow these parking vultures to chase up their spurious claims for money? Does that mean the laws of trespass will be changed or contract law? How can our so called 'leaders' be so perverse as to ban clamping and yet allow these cowboys to thrive? They are all one in the same to me and to many others too. I am not an advocate of parking at will and flouting any reasonable time allowance. But the idea that these parasites pass themselves and their paperwork off as official penalty notices is nothing short of misrepresentation in itself and now to be endorsed by our own elected 'leaders' to pursue us for exhorbitant amounts of money for some petty infringement is a national scandal. David Cameron et al should hang their heads in shame if this is true. If anyone has any details of this proposed new law I would be grateful to receive them. Concrete Read more
Keep up concrete,
I have the above car that’s been running fine until Tuesday on the drive home from work (25 miles) it was fine until about 3 miles from home when it juddered/lost power for split second but the was fine. It happened again after 1000m but was fine then after a further 1500m it lost power a 3 rd time but this time stalled refusing to start.

Thanks for your comments. Things have moved on before having chance to carry out your recommendations....
After the recent bad winter the front windscreen wipers are causing a problem.
They appear to be running slower than before and the nearside arm judders when it is parking. It also judders at the park position when it is cleaning intermittently but moves freely whilst cleaning continuously. I have checked the operation with the blades lifted off the screen so it is nothing on the screen that is causing the problem.... Read more
I have a Fiesta that starts ok but if you run it and then stop and then try to re start it again after a very short period, the engine turns over but it will not start. The padlock of the immobiliser continues to flash whilst the engine turns over and the only thing I have been able to do is leave it for a while and keep trying until it eventually starts. Any idea's please? Read more
Hi Im having the exact same issue, have been to few garages, but no joy.
Did you ever get to the bottom of the issue?...

Skoda have been absolutely appalling in terms of product quality and customer service. All the more surprising since the local(ish) dealers know that each was in the running for the company's business. Not the slightest chance now!
Best service recently has been for SWMBO's FIAT....
