Manufacturers should be obliged to fit devices to substantially guard against and detect tampering. That ought to be easy enough.
Amongst alleged culprits are lessees, who alter mileage before every service with the intent then to avoid incurring the extra mileage penalties for exceeding their lease agreement mileage restrictions.

Had my 2009 2.0 diesel outlander for 5 years. It’s never put a foot wrong or broken down. It’s done 98,000 miles. I’m torn as to whether to keep it for another 4 years or change it now before things start to go wrong on it . We do about 10,000 miles per year, mostly on country lanes.
Anyone had experience of what sort of mileages this model and engine will do? Read more

Hi all, just wondering why there seems to be a bit of a backlash against Fords powershift transmissions recently. Just about every review or road test on any car fitted with this seems to have "Avoid" written all over it. It is bemusing me somewhat as i had always previously read and understood this to be a superb transmission. Previous reports had indicated that provided the fluid was changed every 2 years or so, (£250 a pop), then it should prove to be trouble free. i've even read that in diesel application, Fords powershift transmission is far superior to VAG's DSG transmission. I pose the question because i was considering a powershift equipped car for my next purchase. But, as always id like to seek the views of the industry professionals/experts who post on this forum. Thankyou. Read more

I wondered if there was more complacency in car buyer world, a lorry that proved dire wouldn't be touched with a barge pole no matter what fancy badge it sported.

The rear light panel on this car has clear plastic sections on the offside and nearside for reversing lights but only the nearside one lights up when reverse is selected. I thought this was a fault but my VW main dealer says only one side is meant to light up. This seems mean on a vehicle costing around £30,000. Do you think it would be a simple job to get the offside light to function too? Read more
Lots of cars have only one reverse light. Usually there is a coresponding fog light on the other side. Fitting up another light on the other side is too complicated and not simple, due to the design of the can network control system.
What a Muppet. I disconnected old battery and must have twisted it when putting it down. Anyway I put the new one in and got the +ve and -ve the wrong way round. Fans and the horn came on and I disconnected it. I realized to my horror the error I made. Lights and door locks work OK but engine won't start. Anyone got a good idea? Maybe immobilizer is unhappy.
