A friend of mine is looking at a 2013 Audi A1 1.4TFSI Sportback at a car supermarket on Friday. Claimed to be full service history, 1 owner etc. 44,000 miles.
Is there any definitive way of telling if it's got a cam-chain or cambelt variant of the 1.4 motor, from looking in the engine bay, etc? Or is it only distinguishable by checking the VIN?... Read more
Hi all
I have a 53 plate Corsa with 69k on the clock and it is using coolant. I have to top up with coolant every 40 to 50 miles.(expansion tank empty). I can't see any external leaks at all under the car overnight.... Read more
All is well! Bought a new crank sensor and it fired up with no problems!
No more coolant loss and no more coffee coloured oil....
Very confused. On 1 hand diesels are going out of fashion and being targeted for higher taxes but the 1.4 tsi is £110 road tax while the 1.6 is free and 2.0 is £20.
With the TSI you dont get DPF and EGR faults but apart from that what the the benefits of the petrol over the diesel? Looking at 2014-2015 mk7.
Will.appreciate any tips and is it worth paying the extra £1000 for the 1.4 tsi over the 1.6 tdi Read more
We are on our 2nd 1.4 TSi. The first was a 140 PS in a 2013 Seat Leon and the 2nd a 2017 150 PS in a Superb. They are magic engines. Loads of power, quiet, instant pick up and incredible economy. Did a 50 mile round trip to pick up some wheels in the Superb the other day. All decent A roads with 4 towns to drive through. The dash display (which is very accurate for once) said 56 mpg.
Tried a 1.6 TDi back in 2010 back to back with a 125 TSi. At the time we bought neither because there were issues with both cars but I can remember the 1.6 TDI being possibly the slowest car I had driven in years....
Hi I'm new.
Bought a 2008 3.0tdi s line a few weeks ago and the a/c doesn't work properly. The econ light was on all the time so i had it pressure tested. Changed the pipe on the nsf and pressure tested again, all good so had it charged. Worked for a couple of days then stopped working but i was able to switch econ on and off.... Read more
On a 13 year old car ensure the windows work and forget the ac.
German marques are notorius for plastics which go brittle over the years and it could be any one of the dozens in an aircon aystem which is leaking.

So you think its unrepairable or needs a complete engine rebuild?.
It starts up, it runs and drives just knocks and leaks. I know nothing about cars to be honest with you and this doesn't sound good what so ever....

I have an 09 ceed with 62000 miles on the clock. I have taken it to Kia dealer as the EPS light came on. Had a phone call to say the steering rack needs replacing and will cost £632.00.
Should a steering rack fail after this many miles or is this normal, if not do I have an recourse with Kia? Read more

Hi all, wondering if any car savvy people could lend me some advice on my particular issue.
Basically, I purchased an automatic seat leon from a second hand dealership back in Nov 2016. I was very pleased with it and have been for the past 18 months. Until two weeks ago, where completely out of the blue with no warning, the car lost gears 2,4,6 and reverse. My usual mechanic couldn't fix the problem and advised a trip to seat themselves, where they diagnosed the problem as a full gear box failure and quoted me a huge repair cost of £4,600.... Read more
Surely they wouldn't keep selling these DSGs (as they do) if they were such an ongoing liability?? Surely, Shirley??
VAG can take advantage of the fact that the general public in the UK is in love with their products and don't look beyond the soft touch interior furnishings, so they can continue to sell poorly engineered carp.

ps to the OP,
I wouldn't scrap it, as most cars will have play..they're known for it berlingos , 106s too.
my hunch is the knock is something seperate, and minor
and the "play" in the axle, isn't a concern.
I used mine for 5 years with with "play" , no problems at all.
The knock could be as Andrew says exhaust... I had that when the exhaust rubbers were the wrong size.
I personally wouldn't send the 206 to the scrappers for that, as there's probably nothing wrong .
ps turn up the radio :)
Cheers
Liam
There are a number of clapped out Audi / BMWs in the area I live all driven with a complete disregard for any highway code and the front number plate on the dash board.
Is this a new trend ? has this replaced "fog lights on in broad day light"?... Read more
It's definiitely a craze.
Call it a craze if you like, but I bet it's primarily an attempt to defeat the average-speed cameras which are springing up all over the place. Will they read a plate atop the fascia ?...
