After being quoted nearly £400 for a new car key from an official dealer, I have been looking at a couple of aftermarket key suppliers locally, which are coming in for around half the price. Generally, is the quality of these aftermarket keys comparable to the OEM keys or is it a case of for half the price you get half the quality? Read more

Took the PT cruiser for an MOT this morning. Passed no advisories. All is well. £200 bargain car obviously plus £40 for the MOT...... Read more
The problem is that with leased cars they don't have an MOT as they are generally not 3 years old, so no MOT history to check there. Plus a car with 30,000 miles is unlikely to have a worn interior. You would never tell compared to a car which has done say 15,000 miles. Read more
And even MOT records are not much comfort as the clocking would be done in advance of each MOT date (just as it would be in advance of each service date).
Surely vehicle manufacturers can devise a recording system that is tamper-proof and should be obliged by legislation to introduce it?...
So traded my VW CC private hire taxi in and now back to Hyundai i40 - my 3rd. My question is would 18 inch wheels make a big difference in handling from 16"? The ride is positively worse than my previous 2 that were on the standard wheels. I have also been told it's because I have a glass roof! Really?? Read more

Unless already done so, I'd check to see if its even possible to downsize by 2 inches, as some cars have larger brakes and cannot accept smaller alloys. I just changed my Mazda3 mk1 (1.6 petrol TS2, built late 2005) from 16in to 15in wheels and tyres, and its made the ride SO much better, ever accounting for the new tyres. If I'd owned a 2.0 version (even if with the same TS2 spec) I wouldn't have been able to do that as the brakes on that car are 16in instead of 15in on mine....
I am starting a new job that will involve driving 100 motorway miles a day. I need to buy a new car that is economical, suitable for motorways and that my recently passed 18 year old can drive without me having to sell a kidney to insure. My budget is about £3500
I was thinking possibly a Toyota Aygo but I would be grateful for any recommendations as I know very little about small cars.... Read more
You didn’t hang about. Nice little car, I hope it serves you well, I’m confident it will.
Hi,
does any one know the rear ABS Wheel Speed Sensor air gap on my 2006 2.2 Honda Civic. I have fitted a new sensor but want to check the gap is correct as I have the ABS/VSA light coming on intermittantly.... Read more

Hi All,
I;m mulling over buying a 2013 Suzuki SX4 1.6 petrol SZ5 trim that comes with the extras that I'm after. I'm finding it difficult to see detailed reviews on the petrol engine. ... Read more
Sorry guys, the car I'm referring to is the SX4 S Cross. I should have researched it properly before posting. Do these have a timing belt or chain and does it have a dual mass flywheel?

I genuinely quite like the idea of an electric car, especially as I have a 23 mile commute in heavy traffic so the ease and cost are appealing - assuming I can afford one with that range.
However, after the 3rd long power cut (5+ hours) in as many weeks (nice job there NorthernGrid!) I realised thats probably 3 times I wouldn't have made it to work as these cars require a decent charge overnight.... Read more
I think that where we are at the moment is that:
'Pure' EVs are fine if you can charge them at home and/or at work (which you can't if you have to park in a street), and you either don't do long distance or have another car to do them in. Their time will surely come: hopefully ranges will extend further and further, and someone will invent remote charging from home of a car parked in the street....
Like millions of others, I try and get the best value when buying petrol- using supermarkets most of the time and maybe graduating to a local BP. A max choice of around 3 or 4 with the cheapest £litre being my objective!-easy!... Read more
I would suggest that there may be no incentive for much more competition in roadside fuel sales - filling stations have been closing steadily for many years. Some are now just carwashes or simply empty sites, and it may now be necessary to drive several miles to get fuel, where in the 'old days' one could usually expect to find a station just round the next bend. And that is despite steady growth in the demand for fuel. Most filling stations also need a convenience shop to stay afloat.

Do you not know that someone's life could be affected by your actions. Lets hope if you have a heart attack or a stroke that there isn't another driver in front of the ambulance like you as you could die.
I guess you have to ask yourself "do you feel lucky" ? If the non genuine key does not work correctly and you end up with a dead car, and fried electronics, who's going to pay to get it fixed?
