Yesterday I had the misfortune to use a car park managed by Parking Eye. I saw their cameras after I had entered the car park.

I paid the fee online by credit card (mobile telephone internet), they added a 30p service charge, I thought such fees for payment by card are now banned? Or is a service charge still permitted? I'm minded to argue with them over this, it's not 30p but the fact anything was added for card payment - espcially as the ticket machine was not working so how else would anyone expect to pay? ... thanks for this link, perhaps it explains why the ticket machne with a pay by cash option was not working!

I'd get a second opinion. Last thing you want is a mechanic who's prepared to throw parts at the problem at your expense. Chances are it could be either or none of the things he's suggested and that it could be much cheaper to repair.

I suspect this is yet another example of problems caused by unnecessary 'servicing'.

Not sure what you mean by unnecessary servicing? Apparently the waterpump was leaking and it was replaced, rather than putting the old cambelt back on, it was suggested a new one was put on instead....

As a student, I had an MG Midget. I shared a flat with 4 other guys and one night it snowed heavily. Some of them had been out and may have had a half of shandy or two while they were.

The next morning, I went down to my car to clear the snow off it. After a while it came to me that the snow was also inside the car. Someone had thought it a jolly jape to lower the roof, fill the cabin with snow and then put the roof back up.

Oh how I laughed at their wit...

my 2003 audi tt fanbelt tensioner is making ratty noise? Read more

The problem could be the belt is old and hard so would need replacing. It could also be a noisy tensioner / idler bearing which needs replacing. It might just need tensioning if you're lucky.

Not sure on this engine , but some vag engines suffer from major damage if the auxillary belt comes off and then damages the timing belt wrecking the engine....

Not sure if its needed - normally a saloon is added to a range (e.g. the Mazda3) as its better looking, handling and has a bigger boot, but sacrificing the practicality of the hatch's larger boot aperture/removal of the parcel shelf and more headroom in the back.

With the latest Civic, its alread a VERY large car - as big as the previous generation Accord and has a huge boot in the hatch version, which, in purely external styling terms, looks the better of the two to me - the saloon looks to be styled very much 'for the American market' to me and won't be a big success in the UK, especially if it is higher priced than the hatch version or, like the latest Mazda3 & Hyundai i30 Fastback, has no proper sporty versions and a cut-down options list (no auto for the Mazda3 Fastback since the facelift in late 2017).

A shame really, as I like saloons - both of those 'alternatives I listed above DO come with the sportier versions (2.5 4cyl N/A petrol and auto option for the Mazda3, 1.6T petrol for the i30 saloon in the US, Canada and Australia). Read more

Much better looking than the ugly hatchback rear end, perhaps Honda have realised that their styling leaves something to be desired.[/quote]

Doesn't look anywhere near as good as the hatchback (imo).

Again no more facts from "Engineer Andy" only misrepresentations of history fuelled by hate, bile and prejudice; so regrettably I withdraw from further discussion.

Oh thank goodness! Nice to see all your rebuttals cached in facts and not feelings. I don't recall any 'hate' in my words, just facts and opinions. Like many SJWs, disagreeing with someone doesn't make them to be some kind of mass-murderer. Funny how they resort to petty name calling when their lack of substance on their arguments gets called out.

Good to see Edd China is back with his own shows again, albeit on Youtube. Watched the first episode last week and its back to being just like the Wheeler Dealers of old, namely getting his hands dirty fixing up cars you will recognise, without having to import them from the U.S first. Re : Eye on You, I can imagine that a queue to exit a store carpark could defeat Parking Eye's cameras, obviously they tend to mount them out of range of petty vandals and if you were following a van closely easy to be missed.
