Hi
I'm thinking of getting a new Renault Clio. The engine types I'm considering are a 0.9L TCe 90BHP (3 Cylinders) and a 1.2L 16v 75BHP (4 Cylinders). The garage keeps saying that the 0.9L is the faster engine but when I test drove it the acceleration was slow and the car was maxing out at 70 mph. I wanted to test drive a 1.2 16v but they didn't have one and kept saying it was slower as it's only 75BHP. But the thing is I have had a 1.2 16v previously (a Vauxhall Corsa) and that had fast acceleration and could reach 90mph no problem. ... Read more
Hi there. I have a problem when on starting from cold ie the car has been left overnight to cool right down and ONLY when the outside temperature is around 7 degs C or lower.
On starting the vehicle from cold, within a few seconds the warning "Engine fault, arrange repair" orange light comes on accompanied by an audiable warning together with the service light on the left hand side of the display. As soon as the warning buzzer has finished its 3 buzzes the warning light goes out leaving only the "service" light on. This happens on tick-over, as soon as I touch the accelerator the service light goes out. The whole cycle repeats itself after a few seconds.
After about 10 minutes the problem disapears and does not reappear while the engine is warm in fact even if the outside temperature remains low even if restarting the vehicle after a few hours the fault does not reappear, only when it is left to fully cool down, say overnight.
I have had the car for c1 year (2015 plate), it has covered 42k miles, is fully serviced and does short 20 min motorway runs and to local town every day averaging 50 mpg.
The Citroen garage has replaced the fuel filter twice, the first time after the car completely dumped all the diesel over the road and wouldn’t restart on after stopping. It is currently in said garage where and apparently it showed up a fuel line code but then they couldn't find anything physically wrong. They still have it and will test it again tomorrow morning when it is cold so that they can put it on the diagnostic check when the fault is actually occurring.
Has anyone experienced this problem or have any possible idea what the problem is? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi
Did you get to the bottom of this issue?...
We bought a Vauxhall Zafira A four years ago, when we got it the engine on it was just under 100,000 miles. Since then we've had a number of things fixed on it - we've had new exhaust, clutch, radiator, timing belt, water pump, spring, brake pads, brake discs, shock absorbers, etc.
We have it serviced usually once a year and every year it just flies through it's MOT. The only thing that ever seems to come up on the MOT is when the tyres need changing. We also usually try and get the advisories sorted out every year too.
We have two garages in our local area that look after the car - Overton Service Station in Ludlow and Gatechange Garage in Tenbury, both seem very confident when it comes to cars and always seem to do a great job.
The vehicle now has done over 163,000 miles, it's a 55 plate vehicle (it was actually one of the last Zafira A's before they switched to the B's and judging by the fire problems I'm glad it's an A!)
Anyway my dad has been driving for years, and every time I phone him up now he always asks repeatedly about the car. It's really starting to get on my nerves. He keeps demanding that I replace the car because it's done a lot of miles and it's going to pack up because he thinks that 163,000 miles is a lot for a car, although when we first got the car he did ask us why on earth we bought one with nearly 100,000 miles on the clock anyway as apparently 100,000 miles to him was the end of life for a petrol engine - although I notice some of the courtesy cars Overton sometimes lend us have done over 250,000 miles and they are also petrol.
So I'm not too sure what to think, it's annoying me that he keeps mithering me about buying a new car when actually this car still seems to be running fine (he also keeps telling me to go to somewhere like Arnold Clark and spend about £6,000 on a decent car rather than some dodgy trader - I can't quite see the irony of this that he actually bought his last car from Arnold Clark and within 2 months it was smoking - ok they did fix it but it still broke! Where as we've had 4 years out of this car from what he deems is a "dodgy trader" and spent only £1,200 on it! And tbh I see it more risky to buy a car from a dealer that has mechanics that only work for the dealer, than to buy it from a garage that has a mechanic there that owns the place, and his dad also owned the place too and so passed his skills on and ultimately his name is on the line more than a faceless corporation), it's not really using oil differently, it always seems to use a lot of oil in the winter and then not so much in the summer (usually I have to top it up twice in the winter, but nothing in the summer - it's been like that since we got it so I guess that's just normal).
When it goes for MOT it always comes back fine, it's emmissions report is usually quite low, actually it's even lower than the Vauxhall stats for that car!
The only one slight issue we do have is that if I initially leave the car on with the radio running for about 10-15 minutes and then turn the vehicle on I find that the power steering doesn't work for about 10 minutes. It's not really a big problem - someone told me that as it's electric power steering it's possibly the battery, but we've had the battery checked so many times and each time it comes back fine, the battery is still the original battery though, but it does also have a green light on the battery that also shows up fine too.... Friends of ours bought their 2001 Zafira 1.8 from new. It is still the family car (although both kids now drive!). It probably does not more than 6,000 miles a year these days but soldiers on. Cheaper than buying a new car.
Hi, Has anyone had any issues with the cruise control not working and also the display showing the gear changes on above car Read more
Hi,

I have the 207 late 2011 model 1.6 Diesel. 50K miles. Full service history but not with Peugeot. Yesterday the power steering packed in - the fault light flashed on and it become stiff to turn.
Have read some other posts I've booked it in for diagnostics with Peugeot. Amazingly some people have had the costs covered by Peugeot even out of warranty due to it being a common problem. However, I doubt this is applicable 6 years down the line? ... Read more
Turned out to be the Main Fuseboard ECU on mine which my indie replaced with a used one. Water ingress was the cause, but the fault happened after leaving the car at the airport whilst on holiday
I purchased a new Hyundai i10 in December 2014. The rear brakes were sticking on right from the first mile. I have taken it back several times and asked at the anual service for the brakes to be checked. the problem persists three years on.
I have communicated with several other owners who have the same problem.... Read more
There is an ongoing problem with the brakes on some i10 cars as voiced by a number of HJ readers. See also HJ's comment on the 2014 i10 under Achilles Heel, regarding i10 brakes.
Hi,
Has anybody considered buying either the Seat Leon estate version or the new Seat Arona SUV? They seem to be a similar price (with discount) for the base model of each range.... Read more
I was mistaken, it was the Top Gear New Cars magazine I read, Not What Car.
Should have know better!
So my Mazda CX5 failed its MOT on the brake discs and said they needed replacing.
I was quoted approx 330 for this (using official Mazda parts) - I said that I would prefer not to use Mazda parts and that would hopefully reduce the costs.... Read more
Just to make you aware that once you put your vehicle in for an MOT before it's current certificate expiry date (in your case one week) then if it fails you do not still have any remaining days from the previous MOT to fall back on! Your vehicle has failed and if on brakes for example then you would be in breach of your insurance agreement by putting it back on the highway unless repaired first as it has been deemed unroadworthy!
Bull. Only if it has a "dangerous" fail listed. You can still drive away with majors....
Hi, thanks for reading.
I own a 2013 Mazada CX-5 with 150k on the clock. Just took it in today for a service and MOT and I expected it to sail thru. Unfortuantely they said it failed on the emissions and then they realised that it was head gasket failure. I was quoted £900 to get this done. I dont see the point in spending that amount of money for a high mileage car.... Read more
You've left it a bit late, but go to the top. Find out what the 'Mazda franchised' outfit is and who personally owns it. If many shareholders, write to the MD or CEO. Copy to your local trading standards office. Copy to DVSA complaints dept. Don't forget a copy of the MoT pass you obtained soon after their scam.
The Kia 7 year warranty is very tempting, has anybody got details of how it works? Do you need dealer serivcing and what is covered for how long? I hear Kias are pretty good these days. Read more
Very interesting-How old was the car when bought? why was the vehicle on sale without a warranty? when you say re-instated--did they then offer a new 7 year warranty or just an extension ?...
Test drive the Renault Clio 0.9 and I'll think you'll be unpleasantly surprised, don't bother with the Nissan Micra as you'll literally want to jump out of it while it's still moving (A Team style).
