Have an Audi A3 - 98k - 2.0 TDI with a FSH, and 10 months MOT - wondering if I should PX it (been offered £2200) or sell private?

Looking at autotrader and recent sales on eBay I could get more but having never sold a car privatly before I wonder... Read more

It depends how much you value your money and your hassle-time. Selling privately can be worth a grand or more to you, because that is roughly what a trader will need to cover his costs, risk, and to make a profit. An ad or two is always worth a try - if you are unlucky you still have a fall-back position.

On the downside is the time of year and the current anti-diesel feeling. The upside may be the Audi badge and the FSH. Give it a try. Remember that pricing can vary quite a bit across the country, so keep your comparisons fairly local.

My MOT is coming up very soon--and I see on the 2017 Test Certificate that the 2 front shock absorbers --and one rear are noted(advisory) as having "light misting of oil". I may or may not change the car this year-but I want it to pass it's 2018 MOT test, which i suspect it will--with the same advisories, unless of course there has been a detioration in the last 10 months or so.... Should i just leave these untill i have to change them? Should I replace the shockers( all 4?) , is it worth it? What would be the £cost of doing all three or even four.

As per subject. Have tried a skoosh with the GUNK equivalent of WD-40, to no avail.

Might try solvent (brake cleaner?) and a blast with compressed air next. I see graphite sprays recommended, but I dunno if I can get them here, though I can get pencil lead.... Read more

I squirt my locks and door catches, all round, with Duck Oil. Back in my Mini days, I found WD-40 would still allow the locks to freeze up in winter, but I tried Duck Oil and the locks never froze again! I've done 217,000 miles in this Fiesta diesel and go around the door and boot lock and all the door catches regularly with Duck Oil.. Seems to keep it all working.

I'm looking for advice re using a front-facing child seat in the front. I'm pretty sure it's not (easily) possible to disable the front airbag on my 09-plate Focus. I guess that officially the advice is that a child seat should not be put in the front, but I read that if you put the seat position back (i.e. away from where the airbag would inflate) then it should be ok. My son is just over 2 years and we have a good quality child seat.

Hi,

I was given the above car about 4 months ago by a cousin who couldn't drive any more. I sorned it and left it in his Council house garage. Now, unfortunately, he has passed away.... Read more

I forgot to mention my brother sold his for 5k with a faulty autobox, it wouldnt drive at all and needed a new box, so it shows people like the Granada and pay a good price even if they need work, only thing I didnt like about it, it was light metalic green. yuk

though he spent 2 years rebuilding the car he regrets selling it, but it was expensive to run and he is getting too old to do any work

We were very disappointed by our 2012 Qashqai; numerous problems with air-conditioning, electric windows and tailgate handle falling off. It handled poorly and generally felt flimsy. The final straw was failure of the automatic transmission that cost £2730 to have rebuilt. I will never buy another Nissan. Read more

Its a survey comparing old cars were the petrol engines are mainly simple NA types.

All that is changing now as most modern petrol engines are going turbo, so just as complicated as diesel, future petrol cars will all have a particulate filter to meet emmisions....

I don't remember when engines started to have covers. Nor do I know how important they are. I have read criticism of the ix 20 that it does not have an engine cover. How important is this ? and, if it is, to further my education why is it ? Many thanks Read more

Cheers skidpan. I think most designers nowadays should do something else.

Do they have a certain amount of time to fix a fault? I had a recall for my airbags and I am still waiting on them getting the part in 2 years later. Read more

As the owner of a Vauxhall Zafira with yet another recal due to safety issues I cannot see how this cannot affect the resale value. I don't feel safe driving it with children and would simply not buy one now, I am sure there are many others like who feel the same......so unfair!
