Car ownership could also start to become history, You may simply "rent" them through an app with charges related to distance, congestion and demand. So you could dial up a car to take you to the station at 07.30, put the kids in another for the school run at 08.30, dial up again at 12.30 to take you to lunch and return at 14.00,pick up the kids at 16.00 etc. No parking required as they simply return to base after each assignment.

Pardon me if I say that sounds like a load of c*bblers. Have you been brainwashed by too much Star Trek? It may work for other nations, but too many Brits like to be seen in their own shiny vehicles, which they can display on their front drive of an evening .......

Any advice would be gratefully received.

I lent my car to my brother's mate (from Austrailia) whilst he was over here. He told me he was insured and so I trusted him. After he left, I got a NIP from the police for speeding! I am f#'king fuming. ... Read more

I think you are right they wont chase him. in australia, and besides even if they did catch up with him, they could still prosecute both of them, one for do ing the driving and the owner for allowing ti to happen..

I thought it was one or the other but both can be charged, I checked.

Hi, so my window jet washers arent making any noise nor is their any fluid coming out. I've tried to find the fuse for the pump but can't find it, could someone enlighten me, where the fuse is. Or is this another issue i.e kinked pipe, blockage or do I need a new pump/engine for the jet washer.

Any help would be appreciated. Read more

Ah! Your pump has lasted longer than mine! Alas, they don't last forever. I got a replacement off that well known Internet site for under a fiver for my 2006 Fiesta (which had just done over 200,000 miles). Fitting is easy.

Jack up the near-side front and remove the wheel. There's two screws holding the inner wing liner up to the left, and another two screws down to your left, fastening the liner to the front bumper. Peel back the liner, and there's that tiny little pump which has lasted so long....

I have been contemplating a change of car and have been using Cargurus.co.uk to alert me to cars being available.

The alerts give me the price of the vehicle and what they think it is worth - good bad, or about right.... Read more

One that makes the dealer squirm is to either ask them what the part-ex value of the car you’re buying is, or check out the we buy anyy car price in front of them.

If you bought it today and sold it back to them tomorrow, they would only use the same system and pay you auction average value.

Wow, it sounds like the forgers went to quite a bit of trouble.

Now you have the original VIN, it might be worth running another HPI check - but on the VIN number.... Read more

Good advice about getting ventilation settings right before driving, I would add check that you have the air intake selection as external and NOT recycle.

Car insurance is a b***** racket, never mind the excuses about premium tax.
What about the auto renew scam where companies jack up premiums by 30% and hope the mug doesn't notice. The claim management criminals and hire car parasites who live off the back of peoples misfortune need eliminating. The expensive and unnecessary add ons they try to sell you. The selling of reinsurance to a string of other companies who take a cut.
I believe the genuine cost of insuring each car is about £95. The rest of each policy is largesse to a totally rotten and corrupt system that needs serious reform. Read more

There is no chance of the rate of Insurance Premium Tax being frozen. It will creep up year by year until it is about 18%. Then it will be abolished and replaced by VAT. This has been the plan all along.

I had the same well known fault - and lived with it for years. Finally decided to have a go at repairing it last summer. Thanks to a u-tube demo (search 'Focus Mark 1 door lock problem' or similar - you will hopefully find it), I took the door card off, extracted the the lock mechanism, sawed a corner off the white plastic sealed box that houses the actuator, squirted it with copious WD40 and banged it about a bit - hey presto - it started working again!
