I have a Mazda CX5 with the skyactiv diesel, it suffered a complete engine failure a week ago and is currently with a Mazda dealer in Dublin. They say the engine will need to be replaced along with the turbos, ( twin turbos i believe ). The service guy at the dealer is trying to get some sort of goodwill from Mazda but as it has a full service history but he doesn't hold much hope as its over the 60,000 miles limit and he says they are a stickler for the rules. To have the engine and turbos replaced at the Mazda Dealer is costing almost 10,000 euro which is just rediculous , I found your website and have read some of your reviews, could you sort the engine in my Mazda CX5 and if so what would the cost be. Just bringing this thread up to the top because one of our members can't find it.

I think the jury is still out on whether newer Mazda diesels are free of the problems which have caused the engines to fail catastrophically. The problem is that according to most road tests, the diesel is generally better to dive than the petrols because of superior torque. (Indeed, so have diesel engines in general, but the petrol Mazdas are known to be sluggish at low revs.)

I'm interested to know what peoples thoughts are about the AWD version of the RAV4 and whether it's worth the extra and reduction in MPG for AWD capability.

The relatuve narrowness of the C3's tyres will have helped, too.

Anyone else heard Vauxhall’s are recalling a batch of Crossland models due to high risk of major engine failure and giving customers brand new replacement cars?

Must be a major issue if they are going to that expense.

Does anyone have more details? Read more

A bit of googling suggests it's probaby to do with oil getting into the combustion circuit:

Check the voltage across the battery with the engine running, should about 14.4 volts, much less and you could have an alternator problem.

I posted this on the Volvo forum earlier today but wondered whether anyone on here with knowledge of Volvos/autos could offer any advice. Thanks!

Thanks Avant.

After a 3-hour drive home this afternoon (M6......) we were both complaining about how uncomfortable we were so I honestly don't think that it's something I am going to be able to rectify and, in all honesty, I don't have the energy. This morning I had some relief after a car-free day - tonight I am as bad as I was on Friday and yesterday and that's more than coincidence....

Hi,

I have a 2006 (Mk2) Ford Focus 1.6 LX (petrol). It's done 82k miles. The major work it's had done is a new slave cyclinder and clutch at 45k miles (slave cylinder failure). A new power sterring hose at 56k miles (design fault I understand). Two new wheel bearings at 70k miles.... Read more

To clarify, the only time the dashboard oil light is lit is at the same time as all the other lights are lit during the turing on of the ignition. Once I switch the engine on they all go out.

My friend has an Toyota Auris. Same year as my Focus. Same engine size (1.6 petrol), same level of luxuries, has done the same mileage give or take 1-2k, and has done the same type of driving (responsible driving on a mixture of A roads and traffic). Yet, his Auris has not required a single part replacing. All he has replaced is the oil, brakes and tyres when needed.

Probably on the fringes of "motoring law", but here goes:

We (or at least, our limited company) bought an Outlander PHEV in 2016, as my wife's company car. Seemed reasonable value to buy the service plan at the time, so we did. The Ts&Cs are pretty clear, pasted at the bottom of this post for ease of reading.... Read more
