“A van that you bought 5 years ago, have done 50k miles in, and are now selling on for a third of what you paid for it, is not part of your business.”

Correct.

The dash display on my focus has become very intermittent and I was just wondering if anyone has a repair carried out by them.

Hello and good afternoon. I have a Toyota Camry 2.4vvti vehicle (year 2002). It has 80,000 miles on the clock. From cold, it struggles to start on about 80% of cases. It will try to start whilst I crank, but will not start. When you try again after perhaps another attempt or sometimes twice, it will start. Otherwise the car runs well. The engine warning light is not swtched on..

It could possibly be the coolant temperature sensor causing the cold start mixture to be too weak.

Taking it to a Toyota dealer may end up being cheaper than a "keep fitting new parts" approach.

What are auction prices like at the moment, looking for a 2/3 year old hatchback Read more

Thanks all for your replies, went to BCA before seeing all replies. Bid on a car but it went over budget when costs were added so left it.

Found another at a vauxhall dealership which had been part ex'd for exactly the same as bid price; Service, Mot, 6mth Warranty and saving £600 fees! Result!

Take a typical hybrid car and look at any review facts and figures, it only deals with what goes on with the internal combustion engine part of the car. Engine size, number of cylinders, power, torque etc. As far as the electrical specification of the car, what do we get - almost nothing.

We only get mpg figures but no details about how much electrical power is used. Only half the story....... Read more

IMO it's about time the OEs started quoting fuel economy figures for electric vehicles, either in Whr/mile or miles/kWhr.

How many do you expect to understand that, a lot cannot work out how much electricity they use let alone Whr/mile or kWhr ...

Hi, i am new to the forum and hoping someone can help advice a car novice.

Over the past few weeks, when i first drive my car, when it is cold, it has very little power. This lasts for about 4-5minutes then it is fine. I have no problem starting the engine and initially all seams well, then power drops to the point that I think the car may stop. I have to drop my gears back down to first then slowly build back up.... Read more

Sadly ,fault codes are only a rough guide and without any data and real time values ,are pretty much meaningless. You say the car is not in good condition, does this mean it has not been serviced recently ,if at all ? Start with basics .How about spark plugs, and of course the air filter Mr H has suggested?

Hi all.I have just bought a Corsa C, 02 with 100000 on the clock. It has a horrid oil leak around the timing cover area,Now I'm not an expert by far but set about curing it.I took off all the ancilaries then the timing cover, tensioners and chain etc(After setting it up with the special things to stop the engine moving inside.I removed the timing case gasket, cleaned the surface ready for refitting.I replaced the crankshaft seal, and noticed a groove in the crankshaft pully hub(Wow I,m getting into this) din,t think no more of it. I put two lines of cylicone where advised by haynes, and refitted everything.also put cylicone on the gap where the gasket stuck up,I cut off the excess gasket first. changed the oil filter and refilled car with oil.I still have a slight leak would the groove in the hub cause it to leak past the new crankshaft seal.

feeling great that I took it all apart and refitted everything.so not scared to strip it down again if need bee, but will wear stronger gloves next time Nails are ruined lol. Read more

After a really heavy hailstorm, my sons girlfriends 66 plate i10 has a few little dents in the roof, obviously it doesn’t affect the driving of the car but it would be best if she had it repaired, can this be repaired using smart repairs, or would it be better for her to visit a body shop. Is this likely to be really expensive to fix, and require her to go through her insurance, I know no one can give exact costs but an idea of how much it is likely to be would be a start.. Read more

<< Other problem was local bodyshops were inundated with similar repairs as most of the local dealers had stock badly damaged too. >>

That's an important point - a hailstorm can cover a wide area ....

I recently purchased a 2015 Nissan qashqai and I knew it didn't come with a spare wheel I knew one could be purchased for it. The dealer wanted £350 For the wheel tyre and Jack ect. After browsing eBay I have just purchased a supposedly genuine brand new wheel tyre ect for £125.

I'd rather be able to put on a space saver and have to put some luggage in the passenger compartment than have to use the gunk or wait for the RAC and pay extortionate prices to a tyre fitter in the middle of the night.
