Last thing I want to do is spend £1000s on a car or if I buy a diesel car then realise in a year or two it becomes worthless and obsolete by new upcoming emission regulations making me buy another car that I cant afford otherwise I wont be earning to pay the bills you know what I mean.... Which places offline or online does everybody go to buy cars at the best prices? Also which times of the year is best for buyers market?

Are these places usually risky in regards to vehicle history?... Read more

Warning

"Ok im after a used car."

It is n't a car you are after, but a car owner who has carefullly looked after their vehicle. No car dealer has a monopoly on great and owners. Even if the owners are good, they could have ended up buying a terrible car.

I find buying cars frustrating..... ...

My daughter has decided to hand back her work provided VW Polo and buy her own car with a budget. Of 10k.

She has set her mind on a Mazda 3 with thank goodness the 2 litre petrol engine.

But has she overlooked any skeletons in th cupboard such as the ABS sensor which I believe has known to give problems.

Your advise would be much appreciated. Read more

I have just brought a 2007 VW Toureg 2.5 diesel and am haveing a few issues , there seems to be an intermittent power issue. Sometimes when going up hill or pulling out of a junction the car has no power and despite kicking down on the auto box still has no pull,
I am also having an issue with the ESP Light coming on on the dash and will not switch off this seems to be within about 20 min of any journey
After about 45 min driving the display which shows the auto box position and gear reading goes blank with a red box around p,r,n,d,s
Also have an issue with cold starts and taking a long time to start
Any help or advice would be very much appreciated, thank you Read more

Helping my brother do a bit of research at the moment as he's looking at cars for his son. So, I thought I'd just put a little something on HJ to see what everyone thinks.

Overall, which do you think would be a better first car for my nephew out of these three? He's a 17 year old who has just passed his driving test, usually sensible and I think he's getting a black box too to reduce insurance. ... Read more

I wanted a bigger car at that age (and more power!), I've never been a great fan of superminis. With all the different VW engine configurations the Seat uses there must be one to suit, if the OP goes down that route. I have to say though if new Corsas or Fiestas are being considered the quality of these has improved massively. Fiestas have always been pretty decent but Corsas up until the recent facelift were absolutely awful in terms of cabin materials and driving experience, now they're genuinely nice cars especially in 3 door guise which look better for a young man

Might seem like a strange question but wondered what others might think.

We've been thinking of installing a couple of CCTV cameras at the front linked to a recorder. We haven't had any trouble but might be moving in the next year or three and wondered whether a potential buyer might be encouraged or put off?... Read more

Thanks GB for the cogent thoughts from an experienced driver who knows what he's talking about.

So off it'll be to my indy, new tyres on the front (and I'll probably have an oil/filter change as well just beacuse of the upcoming trips)....

Yesterday I had the pleasure of using the M5 in both directions, this involved miles of narrow lanes with 50mph average speed cameras, the return was worse, from the M6 junction there are miles of roadworks and NO WORKERS, no wonder the “works” take so long, the only person I saw was a digger driver laying back in his seat on his phone. Why don’t they just get the job done, it’s been going on for years and the signs encouragingingly advise they will be finished in 2022!!!!
Hacks me off! Read more

The vast majority of works for hardshoulder running and smalrt motorway take place away from the running lanes. You are not aware when on motorways but they are nearly all elevated to ensure a route in times of floods.

Once you start to increase loadings on the margins it all needs strengthening, culverts moving, new bridge supports etc etc.

NO police- no law and order and the sooner the Government realise, the safer we will be. Cutting the Police budget was one of the worst things this government could have done. Just look at the cost to the NHS of knife crime. Whilst most of these MP's live in their ivory towers, here in the real world the country is going to the dogs. Read more

Parent responsibility must be factored into these statistics and they need to be prosecuted as a child in law needs protection- they are vulnerable surely.
Society it would appear needs a big wake-up call. I never knew of this problem-
one would initially put this down to fake news! Thank you for highlighting this.

Hi, I'm looking for a sub £1500 car for commuting, I've decided on Toyota because they are known for reliability just can't pick what one.

I can easily get a high mileage diesel Avenesis d4d that has service history.... Read more

We can try to help, but ultimately only you can decide what your budget is for a car - £1,500, £7,500 or somewhere in between. Also only you can decide on how big a car you need.

If your commute is 15 miles each way, assuming you work 5 days a week and for 48 weeks in a year, 5 x 48 x 2 x 15 = 7,200 miles. And presumably you'll travel a bit at weekends. So a lot of this will depend on how many miles you prefer to do by motorbike....
