So I bought this car which has obviously had a cheap paint job and its flaking away! Its a silver car, but as the paint falls off its exposing black areas...not sure what it is, I'd of expected primer or base coat. It feels like plastic, its not black paint. here is an image of the damage imgur.com/a/bugKOW9

I want a quick fix just to make it more presentable, what would be the best way goint about that? Its certainly not worth getting it professionally done. ... Read more

Get a touch up stick of the right colour and paint over with a small brush the black areas. It will look better (from a few paces away at least)

My car is six months old and dark blue in colour. Even though I am fairly fanatical about how I wash the car, I have noticed light swirl marks in the paint now the sun has actually decided to come out. I know this is difficult to prevent as there are always particles in the air which can get under a polishing cloth. However, I would like to get rid of, or at least reduce the appearance of these marks. Obviously I don't want to use anything aggressive and I had been looking at Autoglym Super resin Polish as a possible route to at least hiding these marks as this seems to be well reviewed for doing exactly this. Is this the way to go? Any advice welcome.

I'm afriad this indicates an incorrect car wasing method has been used.

I have no connection with this person but you might want to watch how he deals with paintwork issues. This video is for a new car that has been improperly prepaired byh a dealer (most wouldn't know how to do it properly). www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOhWpAH05kU...

Engaging drive in 1st gear when the car is warm/hot I get a knocking sensation. Does anybody have any ideas of the cause and how to fix. Doesn't happen when the car is cold so not user error!

Manual gearbox under 10,000 miles

You say its done a low mileage but you do not mention its age. If its under 3 years it should be under warranty (providing you have had it serviced correctly). If this applies take it to a dealer.

As mentioned in an earlier post I like the colour of Tucson (blue) adverstised with AC Edinburgh. It is however about £1,300 more than a similar model / mileage advertised at Motorpoint, but in a less desirable colour.

Do you think AC would price match the MP price (£16k, down from £17.3k)? Is it worth paying a bit more to AC becuase of their after sales support, which might be better than MP?...

Should be able to purchase UK ONLY insurance for those who never drive outside UK just like breakdown cover, would reduce insurance costs for many who only use car for shopping and getting to work.

That would contravene EU legistlation that dictates that all policies must cover all EU countries.

I was recently given a lift by a colleague. He was going to M&S, said do you want a lift, so I said yes as I needed to pick up something for lunch. He has a BMW 4 series, and he claims it does 0-60 mph in 4 seconds. Anyway, we were on a dual carriageway at the Fareham junction south of the M27, and he accelerated very rapidly, then went round a filter lane at an incredible speed before joining the M27. I was terrified, almost screaming with fear. My previous car, a VW Up would have spun off the road. Looking back, I can’t help thinking that he is an idiot. It’s a public road, and if someone else makes a mistake, or he does, it could be costly. Then again, there has to be some reason why people buy ridiculously high performance cars. I remember him saying “you could have a car like this” (encouraging me to work harder?), but I don’t have any desire for such a car. I have enough money that I could pay cash for one tomorrow. But it’s not my ‘thing’.

Incidentally, this weekend I played two games of ice hockey, which is very fast and can be aggressive. I’m not against adrenaline! But in it’s place. Read more

I also do a karting event with police pursuit drivers every year and they aren’t quick. Police driver training isn’t particularly about going fast round corners, the techniques they teach stifle speed on track because they’re taught to feed the wheel and left foot braking doesn’t come into it. It’s mostly about driving at high speed in straight lines being as safe as possible while communicating on radio and being ready to pull off containment manoeuvres. Most don’t have much interest in driving outside of work

Hi, new here to the forum and hoping for some help for a sticky situation I've found myself in with regard to excess mileage costs.

I took a vehicle (BMW 4 series) out 4 years ago on a contract hire lease. I found the deal via an online quote from a car leasing company and we signed the agreement on lease amount and also the excess mileage charge at 5p/mile.... Read more

Hi

forget about the first agreement, since you signed the one that came after that it makes the previous agreemenn null and void, I would suggest you just cough up, we all do it, myself included but you are legally obliged by the small print on that agreement, and, the companies is not obliged to point out anything, it is down to you to read it all , and ask if you are not sure or do not understand, as I sadi we have all done ti , mysefl included.

I drive Sprinter vans at work which are restricted to 62 MPH.

Even downhill on the motorway, the vans stick at bang on 62. Same uphill too.

How does this type of limiter work? Is it some mechanical device within the gearbox? They're automatics too...dropping it down a few cogs makes the revs go almost to the limiter at 62 MPH but again the speed doesn't change (I thought it might have been a speed limiter that works on revs, but obviously not). RobJP

Thanks. How does it keep the speed bang on 62 MPH though even downhill? The revs don't even drop.

It probably applies the brakes to keep the speed at that point.
