Driving my new 68 plate Swift on the A12 yesterday, about 2pm. Near the turnoff for the A120 I'm in a line of traffic indicating left. I've left a sensible gap between me and the car in front. Some "large male chicken" driving a Black CRV decides to pull out hurtle past then cut in right in front of me. Obviously being three seconds closer to his destination was life critical.

But whilst he's demonstrating exactly how much of a "male chicken" he is, his wheels throw up a stone which hit my windscreen, very hard indeed. Like a bullet in fact. Being as it's a 1cm star shaped impact crater and it's immediately in front of the driver so that's a new windscreen. Two months old 1600 miles. Not impressed with Mr Black CRV... Read more

The airbag malfunction warning light is almost permanently showing in my friends Ford Fiesta. It can be turned off temporarily by moving the seat and spraying wd40 on something underneath. Sorry that it's a vague description, I'm just going on information I've been given second hand.

OR the pretensioner itself is faulty.

My son has just had this - we suspect it's the connection where the wires enter the unit.

I would like some advice please - was driving on a dual carriageway in London, speed limit 40. At traffic lights, I changed lanes from middle one to slow lane. Indicated, waited for the car on my left to drive past then changed lanes. My car was about 80% on the lane when a car parked on the side of the road starts moving onto my lane. I quickly steer right to avoid it, but still made a scratch on my back left wing and there's also a scratch under his right headlights.

"These types of incidents when two people go for the same space at exactly the same moment are very difficult to pin blame on"

As I outlined, failing to move off safely from a stationary parked position onto a dual carriageway is not quite the same as two drivers going for the same space. But how the insurance companies will look at it is another matter.

Hi All,

My near side rear door will close with central locking (including the usual auto lock @ 10mph) and can be manually unlocked/opened from the inside. It will not unlock through central locking.... Read more

Central locking faults on the E90 models are pretty common. Won't be a fuse problem, because you will lose operation in 2 or 4 doors, not one. I suspect the lock actuator is at fault. Not sure I would risk a s/hand unit. Too much work to replace it. Tale about not getting it fixed will cause lock out is rubbish. Not a difficult job to change, but a bit of a fiddle. You will need trim removal tools and some Torx drivers/sockets.

My daughter currently runs a Vauxhall Mokka 1.6 petrol which while she likes the driving position, however its rubish on fuel also her family is getting larger....she would like to change it for something bigger to accomadate three under 6year old children and automatic and better fuel compsumsion for her work commute...diesel would give the best mpg but I am worried of potential problems if she goes down the diesel route...she does do over twelve thousand miles a year....does an economical seven seater petrol engined alternative exist...your advice would be much appreciated as I am just getting more confused the more I look at possibles. Some years ago I had a “get rich quick” idea and now I want to exploit it. It’s simple. Arrange one of those extortionate £20 just to connect then plenty more to use the service phone numbers, that pays me. Buy a big, cheap but robust white van. Put a removable sign on the back of the van: "How's my driving? Ring [the extortionate number]". Work my way round the towns and cities of GB, not staying anywhere too long. Sticking to about three-quarters of the applicable speed limit. Observing whether it is safe to proceed for a long time at every green light. Likewise being very careful about turning right when there is a gap in oncoming traffic, often missing opportunities. Carefully changing lane in traffic queues - then changing back - then, sorry, I was right before … Stalling. Letting everyone possible cross or enter the queue in front of me even when it causes a jam. While staying in my lane, positioning myself carefully so as to impede lorries and buses. And so on. I would welcome further suggestions (the Highway Code is a good source of ideas) and also ask HJ readers for advice as to whether I should franchise this idea, or perhaps just buy a few vans for friends and relations? Once I am into profit I would like to upgrade the windows and windscreen(s) of my van(s). Do readers know of any suppliers of unbreakable windows please?

I have a 2005, 1.4L, petrol 206 Verve. I want to get a full set of tyres, I guess I'm not completely against partworn as new tyres become partworn pretty quickly but I don't want to pick the cheapest option. What would be the best / safest tyres I could get for about £200?

Hi Andy, I assume you were commenting on my post as you reference Avons. Sorry I didn't respond earlier.

The size is 185/70/14. At the time I was looking the fitted prices across several suppliers were very close. Like you I am suspicious of some Black Friday deals but this one made BC the cheapest with local fitting (5 mins away from me)) by a small margin. ...
