Not quite as ugly on the outside as the existing one. Thank God. A somewhat creepy smile on the front though. Read more
I don't really understand keyless theft when all owners have to do is put their keys in a faraday bag. Manufacturers should supply a couple with each new car (pointing out the danger of theft) or owners should fork out £12 or so to get one off Amazon.
What companies like Ford could also do is contact all owners of previously purchased cars with the new keyless system pointing out what they need to urgently do or even just send them a bag for free. Insurers could do the same.... Read more
2009 automatic 72000miles, noise starts when I boot the gas down from a standing start. comes from bulkhead low down central area. gearbox fluid looks ok and box works as it should. at first, the noise stopped when slipped into neutral but now it's just the same. makes noise when stationary and moving, gets a bit worse as revs rise. driven gently its all ok for a few hours. Hi all,
I’m looking into changing the engine mounts as I suspect a few of them are knackered. I’m aware of the one near the aux belt and the one that is on the gearbox. Any pointers to how many others there are and their locations would be great, cheers
Also, any particular brands to go with or completely avoid? Seen a lot of cheap ones about, cheers Read more
Powerflex are decent ones and they do inserts that save on the cost of doing a full mount
Hi guys

If the car is otherwise decent and you plan on keeping it a while I’d spend the £300 to change the timing belt and water pump. Shop around for a quote and don’t let anyone con you. These aren’t that hard to do. If it’s tatty and only running local I’d just run it til it drops. They’re not bad for eating timing belts these but like any ten year old rubber timing belt it could snap today or in years, the idea of changing it is to eliminate the worry of this.
Don’t let anyone tell you the belt has been changed on any car you’re looking at without showing proof in the way of an itemised receipt. No one changes it shortly before selling or part-exchanging so especially on older motors like this regard it as needing done and price it in when offering.
A good Mk II Focus 1.6 petrol can do well over 150k with care but a neglected example with little sign of frequent oil changes isn’t worth spending the money on.
I testdrove a new Toyota Yaris year 2017, petrol, non-hybrid, 1,3 L with automatic gear, which I consider buying.
During the testdrive, sudddenly, smell of burnt rubber appears inside the car after driving out of the highway I take the car back on the highway with the cardealer once again and same thing happens, again smell of burnt rubber.
The car was driven normally. Aircondition/airvent was on.
We stop the car, open the hood and the smell of burnt rubber is coming from the engine and not the tires.
What cant it be, what do I do? Read more
Also agree. Walk away (preferably run)!
You now know why the last owner got rid of it!...
Took her into my (very) trusted indy today for front tyres. Rears are still very good (last time had four cheapos) so had new on front - planning that now all four will meed changing next time. Have spare set of 16" wheels if I really want to get into this but they need blasting/painting.
'Chwarae teg' ('fair play') as we say here, when I collected the car he had done the tyres, checked/topped the coolant, oil, brake and steering fluids, put it up om the ramp and given it a quick pre-mot to check she was ok for the winter. (Nothing to report).... Read more
Correct - that's no doubt his real name.
I can't think why, after a gap of three years, he has come back just to make comments like this, and similarly unhelpful comments on other threads.
Followed a skip lorry this morning. Was surprised to see him whilst carrying a fully loaded skip. Drive over a bridge clearly marked "Weak Bridge 7.5t limit". Trouble is not being HGV savvy I don't know how heavy they are. But it looked to me to be pushing the limit. Big lorry six wheels, two at the front, four at the back. Far larger than a transit size we are talking a proper lorry. If he was ignoring that restriction who would you call? Read more
I'm not clear how the stated weight limit applies vis-a-vis number of axles. When heavy loads go by road the answer is always to use a multi-axle transporter, but if this bridge is an elderly one, maybe the advertised limit is a guesstimate anyway?
Limit on canal etc bridges round here is gross vehicle weight. Even for a a big artic there's a period where all or bulk of weight is on the bridge. If the issue is axle weight the sign would say axle weight....

At that point dad decided (rather strangely I thought) to get another 213 but by then it was the new hatchback version that used Rovers own K series engine.
That would be a 214 then....
I get my Wife to put her Keyless Fob into a tin box when at home and the Ally wallet for her Bank card when out and about but not driving. It is worth saying that the car itself is a large Faraday Cage and even Earthed via it's tyres.
So pop the Fob into the Bag or other protective device when not in the car and you'll be fine.
You can get the protective bags from ang good Electronics supplier (CPC.com/radio spairs.com) or you may know someone who can let you have an Anti static bag.
Good luck.
