My car has covered 35000 miles from new and I am informed by Mercedes that I am due an oil and filter change on my automatic gearbox. Is this necessary or is it just another way of Mercedes Dealers extracting money from their customers? Read more

A good MB indy will have the equpiment to do this, and probably a lot cheaper.

Isn't this amusing, a few years ago they were filled for life, U TurnsR-Us....

BMW chain driven diesel engines are a better bet than a Audi belt driven engine IMHO. I have had Merc,BMW,Audi and rank them in that order.

Hello,

Could you tell me if the 2014 Honda CRV 2.0 I-Vtec petrol is equipped with the complete covering plate under the engine, that is protecting from splash and debries (like the Usa models) , I cannot find under mine, so oil can, gear box and exaust are unprotected,... Read more

hi,

in the week-end I've seen images of other CRV 2.0 i-Vtec without splash guard under the engine, so I think that in some veicles it will not be applied, I cannot understand why due to the kind of car that is the CRV ( probabbly it will operate in worse kind of street that normal cars),...

Hi All,

I've been looking for a car around 4-5k which will be used for a very limited milage. At most i might do 4,000 miles a year on the motorway. As a result i'm wondering if i should go for a car that has a high milage and slightly more limted age or go for something older with less miles. ... Read more

The Fiat Panda offers better value and is more versatile than the 500 and is built on the same chassis and running gear. For me any price premium for the 500's retro look is unwarranted.

We have two 1.2 Pandas in the family and over 3 years they have so far been very reliable and economical.

In the (hopefully) not too distant future I'm going to be purchasing my first car. I've got a budget of £5k (paying cash) and quite like the look of the Hyundai i10 1.2. My local approved dealer has a few in advertised around £5500. How realistic is it to get the price down under £5k?

Also is buying approved used worth it? I like the idea of the extra security and peace of mind, but is it all it's cracked up to be? Read more

This is banger territory, however you should be able to pick up a half decent vauxhall Astra/Corsa combo with the 1.7 Isuzu engine which are capable of starship mileage without too much difficulty. Berlingo or Kangoo are not too bad ,but for this money are usually very scruffy and tired.

I'm curious as to whether or not the night driving glasses/shades that are advertised actually make a difference regarding glare ( many badly adjusted headlights about ) If so, which ones ? My intuition is that they will have a negative effect on safety. Read more

For a serial number that starts with a V see www.ukbookshelf.co.uk/fordv. A non urgent request cost £7.95. I have used this service myself so I know it works. They have contacts in Ford.

Hi,

I purchased a replacement quad bike which was road legal earlier this year for use on my smallholding. Never took it on the road at all. Sold bike 6 months later. Filled in new owners details and sent it off to DVLA. 3- 4 months later received a summons in post for no insurance on bike, on a date after I had sold it. It states a fixed penalty notice was sent previously but was not paid. (I never received it!)... Read more

There is no legal requirement to chase DVLA if you do not receive an acknowledgement from them.
Similarly if you have posted the V5 , and ideally have proof of postage, then you have completed your legal requirements.
I suggest you read one or two other motoring forums to see how DVLA try to intimidate and how to beat them if it goes to court.

Intended cash purchase without a part ex and looking for best possible deal in UK. Considering using a well established internet broker but would prefer to deal direct with an MB dealership. Any info from personal experience of a likely interested dealership would be greatly appreciated. Read more
