Due to a number of changes in my life I need a different daily driver. Basically it has to be a relatively small automatic 4x4 as much of my mileage is now along narrow and poorly maintained roads prone to flooding. A gammy leg means it has to be auto. My budget is limited to £2-3k. Any thoughts? Read more
Hi guys,
I was hoping you could help me in my search for a new car. I'm after a sporty looking economical car for under £5000, preferably diesel as I travel 30 miles 5 days a week to work.
My preferences are:
1. A nice interior, with a trip computer showing avg mpg etc.
2. Good mpg
3. Sporty looking
4. Diesel
5. Under 80k mileage
I've been looking at the Ford Focus TDCi MK 2.5, SEAT Leon FR and Volkswagen Golf mainly, any comments or recommendations?
All help is appreciated,
Thanks! Read more
You might just about be able to find an 06 Honda Civic 2.2 CTDI Type S for that sort of money. Quick, economical and sporty, good grip and steering, not many cars can stay with a properly driven one on a country road if it's in reasonable nick - should not be difficult to achieve 40-45 mpg, has all the bells and whistles you are looking for. Just make sure that the clutch has been uprated for the later type as the earlier ones suffered slipping at 2000-2500 rpm in fith or sixth gear at max throttle.
car will not start had adiagnotics test come up with fault code p1517 any ideas Read more
Typing "Citroen p1517" into Google gave some very comprehensive answers.
Assuming the key has been coded and is OK, did your diagnostics tester read the live data on the car to see fuel pressure?...
Had an earlier Mazda 6 and was generally pleased with it, this current version that I have driven is a cracker and the facelift will only make it better.
But, I currently have a Golf V11 and yes it has an electric handbrake, a totally unnecessary and extremely frustrating piece of equipment that has no advantage at all over a normal handbrake and many downsides, so why oh why would Mazda think this a good idea considering the amount of complaints and general dissatisfaction that VW have received over theirs. I have bought a pre-registered Hyundai and the garage are saying I will not get the V5c form for 3 months. I have paid for the car and am collecting it on Friday. Will not having the V5C mean the car can't be properly insured by me for 3 months because I won't be the registered keeper on the V5C? Is the garage within their rights to withhold this from me? You will be the owner but not the keeper. This is a vat dodge/ tactic which is why you bought at a discount. Ofcourse its not ideal as you will have to tell porkies on the insurance when they ask if you are the keeper. I believe they should have retained the vehicle for the required time and then put it up for sale. by the way I have just bought one of these and they are excellent, the reviews are correct.
Nice and cheap as it may be, it's illegal.
My friend was involved in an accdent where a car drove towards her on the wrong side of the road and only avoided injury or worse by swerving at the last moment, however her car was written off. The police took witness statements and took photos. However, she has been unable to get any of this information to claim her excess back and it would appear that this driver is not going to be prosecuted, and incredibly the other driver is alleging she drove at him! The Police simply will not help her at all, and she faces being sued by the other driver and also losing her no claims bonus through no fault of her own. Surely the police are obliged to give her the incident report? Any advice would be appreciated, she only has her state pension so can't afford legal advice.

No help in this instance, but a dash cam would have made a massive difference to the probable outcome here, as it stands it's one persons word against the other, and don't be surprised if the other party enlist some shyster no win no fee parasite and some handy 'witnesses' just to cap it all.
The days of honour and honesty (in all spheres of life), where a man's or woman's word meant something, have but in a few cases gone forever as this country disappears quickly down the toilet, it's up to all of us to protect our own interests from now....
When stationary, if the car is left in Drive will one of the clutches be engaged and slipping? Read more
In total, the team logged approximately three years or 6,000 man-hours of computer-aided mathematical modeling, simulation and analysis of engine speeds, torque and clutch capacity to provide smooth gear changes.
It appears in all that time no one consided holding the car using the hand brake rather than riding a dry clutch. So I understand it, the car releases the clutch after a short while, so you roll backwards down any hill you may be on.
Hi,
May main issue remaining is that the lift pump is not working and I believe I need a replacement. The car runs fine without it but loses power on a hill and a sloped start is difficult. Before I replace the pump I want to make sure the electrics are fine. I have done the tests for listening for the pump in the back, with a hose down the tank and under the car. No movement at all.
I get 13.8 volts at the pump harness connector with the car running so that looks ok and the fuel gauge works. The voltage does not drop after a few seconds which I would expect.
What is strange is I still get that voltage when I pull the fuel pump fuse? can that be explained? I pulled the fuse according to the fuse box layout diagram.
I also cannot locate the fuel pump relay. I have the service manuals and it describes RHD models having it under the drivers dash beside the eccs relay (although mine is a diesel and the manuals seem so to focuse on petrol versions a lot more). There is no relay beside the eccs relay and no terminal to connect one to. I have confirmed that the eccs relay is what it is as the car does not start when I remove it.
I have identified all other relays under the dash, they being ignition, accessorys, wiper, blower and power windows.
Where is the fuel pump relay? could it be under the hood even though the manual does not mention so. I really need to locate it before I buy a new pump,... Read more
I am not sure this model has a fuel pump relay or fuel lift pump .How many wires going into the tank?
Hi peeps.
I had the dpf removed, engine remapped and turbo replaced (with uprated bits and bobs) all about 18 months ago. Now, the powertrain light comes on and the car goes into limp mode but here's the thing. Even the local Ford dealership equipment won't show up any codes.... Read more

Do you really need a 4x4? Unless these poorly maintained roads are often deep in mud or have very steep, poor traction inclines, or are knee deep in snow every winter, then you probably dont need a 4x4. I would look at one of the 2WD variants of the smaller light off roaders, you'll still get higher ride height, and the more forgiving ride of the light off roader suspension, and one less thing to go wrong. A set of all season tyres and you'll be able to go anywhere a 4wd can go in all but the most appalling conditions on road.
