I have a saab 9-3 1.9 TDI 2006. Engine management light was on and lots of black smoke was coming out of the exhaust . Egr was replaced it was not better, now had the mass air flow changed. The ecu light stayed off for about 10 miles. It then came back on. I rang the garage back they explained this is ok and it should go out after the car had had a good run. I decided to try to give the car a good run-the turbo kicked in brilliant then stopped and the car became very sluggish. I turned the ignition off and started the engine up again and the car seems fine again. The ecu light is still on. Is the garage right about taking time for the light to go out ? And does anyone know what happened with the turbo. I have only had the car 4 weeks and I am losing confidence in driving it Read more

Please can somebody help me. I need to know where the oil filter is placed on the Ford Fiesta 2003 model 1.4 turbo diesel. I cannot seem to find a manual online or in the library.

Thank you so much. I appreciate any help.

And because it's just the paper element that has to be changed, it's much cheaper than for some cars!

May I be permitted to stick my nose in with a correction to the hexagon size? Like many fittings on this engine, it seems to have been chosen so that you can work on it whether you've got an Imperial or a Metric tool set. The socket which fits the oil filter housing is 1 1/16" AF (an inch-and-one-sixteenth) if you've got an old Imperial socket set like I have (that socket used to fit something on the Mini, because I had it marked, but I can't remember what it now. Was it the steering wheel boss?) or a 27mm socket if you're younger than me (because 27mm is exactly an inch-and-one-sixteenth!)....

This is not a fault as such. It's a feature deeply embedded in the heritage of all Land Rover products.

Hi Jon.

Very difficult to sort this now, I'm afraid. I suspect very strongly that his 'boss' back at the yard asked him things like "What sort of car was it - how much is it worth? Do you think he'll make a claim!" and they came to the conclusion that the driver of an 'old' Mini would be unlikely to pursue a claim......

18 months ago I visisted a dealer and traded in a car, bought another and paid cash for the balance. Got a receipt and drove off. Yesterday I went to another dealer with a view to changing cars and when they ran mine through an HPI check it was flagged as having a 3 year finance deal active on it, started 6 months before I bought the car and still has a year to run. I have raised this with the supplying dealer, I have had no trouble taxing and insuring the car in the 18 months I have ownsed it and no bailiffs have called, yet. Do I actually "Own" the car, as I stand right now. I think is an error but am a little worried. Read more

>>I wonder if this a logbook loan.

I understand HPI can't detect logbook loans unless the loan company volunteers to supply the information. The nature of these loan companies probably precludes them from doing so. I don't know of any check that will detect a logbook loan.

I understand that next year production of the current Defender range is to cease. I want to buy a used model 90 County or above (with passenger windows) with a budget of 10-12K.

It is very difficult to assess the market because values seem to be all over the place, making finding one pot luck. Even then, it could be a dog.... Read more

My eight year old landcruiser landed me with its first repair this year. It needed a new aircon pipe.

Apart from one set of tyres, and annual service no other costs or mishaps in seven years (I bought it at 11 months old)....

I've tried reconnecting the radio/CD player, I have the code but as I misdialed it it now says 'wait'.

I know this is normal, the manual says it will clear and come up with 'code' after it's been left on for a while, however it's just displaying 'wait' all the time. ... Read more

Hello all,

This may be a stange question but has anyone ever had a lease car and needed to exchange it on health grounds? If so what was the outcome?... Read more

That is for the advice, I go on holiday tomorrow but intend to visit Mercedes when I return. I have read through the lease documents in full and it does state that the lease cannot be terminated early with out aquiering high fees. However I have spoke to Mercedes Benz financial services and they advised that there is a different option for "exchanges" based on health grounds, they advised someone will contact me within 7 days to discuss, so fingers crossed.

Hi

I packed in the Eden shopping centre in High Wycombe on the weekend only to come back to my car and find a 60 quid fine on the window from UK Parking Control because apparently I was "not parked correctly within the markings of thr space". These markings were yellow lines about 9 inches thick on either side and I was about 1 inch over the left one. My car would have barely fitted between them anyway plus the usual legal "contract" notice was buried away down on a wall.... Read more

If you Google Thornton v Shoe Lane Parking you'll find that's a leading case where Lord Denning (one of my heroes) pronounced effectively in favour of people who haven't had the terms of a contract adequately brought to their attention.

He could be heroic in giving just and maverick deisions. His decision in a case called Saunders v Malby (VO) where a ratepayer sought to redefine the effect of the landlord's repairing covenant as it effected the rates (ie local government property tax) was epic. Th more so because Mr Saunders was a vagrant who didn't turn up for his appeal. ...

Four of my teenage daughter's 17-year-old school friends who've passed their driving tests this year have parked outside my house, so I try to do at least a quick visual check of their cars and reported any problems to them...

First, a lovely lad with no interest in cars (he is a bit of a 'boffin' and plans on being a doctor) has been bought an old Mk3 Golf fitted with wide alloys and low profile tyres (which he hates because they give such a horrible ride). Two of the tyres have badly damaged sidewalls where they've been kerbed again and again, his insurance company doesn't know about the modifications.... Read more
