Considering very seriously buying new car from online car broker such as Carfile. Wondering if anyone has bought from online car broker and had one or two teething problems with new car and when taking it to local dealership to sort them out has been not treated well. ( car bought through dealership miles away so not taken there).
Also any problems when taking it to local dealer when needs servicing or more major warranty work? Read more

Thanks for that. I believe you can trade in as normal at the brokers chosen dealer but obviously if a long way away could be a pain having to trail there and back to show them your car.

Not all brokers offer PX facilities....

My VW Passat SE TDI Estate is reaching the end of it's life and I am looking for a smaller used car, but need a reasonable boot space. Looking to spend up to £8000. Would like a Golf but not sure I'll find one with low mileage at this price? Anybody recommend a make or model that fits these requirements? I do about 15,000 miles per year. Have read mixed reviews about the Leon, also considered Focus Estate and Vaux Astra. Any input gratefully received! Read more

Its not so much of an issue here. Durham Council stock up on loads of road salt (and make sure they tell you on the local news frequently!) but tend to forget to actually put it on the roads!

I see HJ has commented that displaying blue lights to the front is illegal:

Saw a motorbike on my way home this evening with a distinctly red hued front lamp.

Some of the newer headlights seem to be green!

VW Scirocco, 13 Plate, GT, Bmotion, Nav/Leather

A change in my job means that I hardly use my Scirocco now. I bought it from new in April 13 on finance with a deposit of around £7000. I love it and it is perfect for commuting. However, I don't think that my sizeable monthly payments (about £350) are worth it to have a car sat on the drive. Another consideration is that I will be commuting decent distances again in 2 and a half years time, At which point I will need a nice overtaking machine just like a Scirocco.

What I need advice on is the most sensible thing to do:

Option 1: get rid ASAP to avoid further depreciation and then buy something suitable in a few years time when I need it

Option 2: take the hit, keep the car, keep paying the finance and then I will already have the car I need when I go back to commuting

Option 3: something else?

Thank you in advance for advice. Read more

There's more to life than commuting. Keep it and have fun with it at weekends.

Turbo Whine, having only covered 14000 miles (10Mths) on a new turbo (Garage fitting Cost £960) the turbo seems to be whining again but having returned it to the garage they insist that the turbo is fine(normal) but offer no explaination for the noise.(can be heard inside the cabin at normal motoring speed)

Any thoughts on what might be the noise other than the turbo?... Read more

Is everyhing else OK. If turbo pipe work is leaking or if the exhaust is blowing you may hear an increased whine. I had this with a VW Passat a few years ago which proved to be a failing exhaust downpipe

Another Suzuki micro car built in India, it seems a slight improvement on the Alto/Pixo but I don't think that it will trouble existing players in this field unless it's very cheap indeed Read more

Hi guys, hope this is in the right place. I've got a mondeo 2001 tddi - Long story short - I broke down, the car cut out, no fuel, lift pump wasn't running. Cut the wires, Put 12v directly to the lift pump and got it going, bled the pipes and car started fine. Drove it for an hour or so, stopping and starting all the while running the lift pump from the cigarette lighter, (although it seemed to run fine without the pump running).

Parked up for a few hours, next time I started the car, it started fine but cut out after 8 seconds. Started again, cut out after 8 seconds again. No matter what revs it's doing or weather I'm driving or not. 8 seconds and it cuts out seemingly electrically. No warning lights, starts straight away again so no air in the system or fuel problems. The only thing wrong is the lift pump is disconnected.

Could this be an Ecu problem. Is it recognising there is no lift pump? If so why did I drive it for an hour previously? Any help would be greatly appreciated guys.

Thanks.

If anyone is interested. It was the fuel lift pump module fuse. It was fed from fuse way f27 in the engine bay fuse box. not f23 like I thought.
