What is the actual diagnostic code ? There's several that can be for the TPS such as P0123 so it's easier if you tell us the 'P' code relevant to yours.
Does the car drive any differently when the EML comes on ? The more info you supply, the easier it'll be to try diagnose ( if diagnosis over the internet wasn't difficult enough ).
Depending on the sophistication and compatibility of your scan tool, can you read the actual values of the TPS ? A lot of basic, cheap scanners don't have the ability to read actual values or are not 100% compatible with the car (VCDS is about the best for VAG).
The fault could be caused by the TPS losing it's basic settings and needing re learning, the throttle pedal sensor or wiring / plug, the throttle body, sensor, wiring / plug or the actual ECU ? You'll need some more in depth diagnosis with a compatible tool to carry out the required checks and wiring tests, hopefully with the correct actual value readings and wiring diagrams.
