Last week I was driving home from work and my engine management light came on with the alarm “Anti-Pollution Fault” on the display screen. The car went into “limp” mode and I very slowly drove it home. ... Read more

When the engine light comes on a very useful fault code is logged. You need to find out what the code was.

"Anti pollution fault" is a very generic code that can come up under a dozen different situations....

Hi, my daughter is thinking of buying a vw golf diesel. But her journeys are mostly about 12-15 miles each way. I know everyone says you need a long run to keep the dpf clean but is it a long journey or the engine temperature that determines if a dpf is kept clean.

She does these trips in rush hour and normally takes about 45 mins, i wondered if this would be enough to warrant a diesel or stay with a petrol. Thanks for any comments. Sparky100. Read more

I agree with skidpan.

If it has to be a Golf, point her in the direction of the 1.2TSi, lovely smooth engine. Even the 85 BHP version will be sufficient for her commute, although the higher powered ones offer extra flexibility....

I've had nothing but trouble with mine too. When mine gave up, it turned out to be the rubber "O" rings needed changing, £55 from Peugeot only ?? for washers!! I've had the engine mounts replaced and now think they've gone again. I've changed literally everything under the bonnet and it's still miss firing. This morning I received a letter saying it's been re called for the spare wheel drain? Whatever that is but hey, I'm getting something free from Peugeot!!

I know that the answer is to go and look at the deeds of my house but, in the meatime, will anyone kindly comment. As I look up my back gadren there are three wooden fences, left, end and right. The support posts are on "my" side in all three cases. The left and right each have one post which has been loosened by the action of the wind and I fear that one or both of them will be flattened in any strong gales this winter. Are they my responsibility or might a bit of negotiation with the neighbours be useful? Read more

RT

We have a double fence on one side - the boundary is our responsibility and has 4' panels with 2' trellis on top to let light in - the neighbour wanted to change the panels, at his cost, for 6' ones - I declined his kind offer so he built another fence his side of the boundary with 6' panels.

My panels are quite rotten now but his fence stops mine being blown over.

Have a C6 with 78000 miles 2.2 Diesel engine For past year have had intermittant fuel system fault . the car cruising at any speed, any road will suddenly misfire either just once or twice some times more then may nor recurr for days/weeks. Recently heading for A3 on M25 east mis fire started just after joining M25 at J13. moved out to middle lane 65 mph misfire started and repeated and engine stopped as approaching J 12 ,slipped clutch to get to n/s lane ( no hard shoulder) decided to abort and go home via M3S . released clutch and engine bump started. Continued to run. Hard shoulder cone off to J3s However got home no further misfires. At no time were any warning lights activated. Citroen Specialist cant find fault . Checking memory showed two sensors activated ( expected since one was crankshaft and other air intake which would be result of my coasting off M25 )

Any suggestions?? Read more

This may sound obvious but check your oil level, I had a problem with a C5 2.2 stopping for no obvious reason. It has an oil pressure sensor that shuts the engine down if it gets low, usually does it when going down hill or braking, the oil doesn't have to be very low for this to happen.

why is my range rover failing to start, all the lights on but nothing happens? Read more

Peter.N.

If the lights go out or dim when you try to start it could be the battery connections, otherwise possibly a faulty starter motor.

My parents are contemplating movine to warmer climates, Malta is the island in question.

My dad wants to take his car with him a 2014 Jaguar xf 3.0 diesel. The car has a dpf and he hasn't had any trouble with it and he doesn't do much motorway miles but he loves the car and wants to take it with him as it will be cheaper to import than buy out there.... Read more

In England they drive on the left, in France they drive on the right, in Malta they drive in the shade.

OK, the inverse of the thread featuring potentially good cars that were never produced - cars that made it into production despite being manifestly a bad idea.

But the Rodius isn't an estate, it's a People Carrier - so not so easy to make attractive.

In a way, I take my hat off to Ssangyong for having a go at making it look a BIT like a 'coupe SUV', (like the X6M) and like Honda attempted with the curvy-down 3rd side window on the previous CRV....
